The latest wild and crazy speculation? Former Georgia Rep. Cynthia McKinney — she of Capitol cop-punching fame — is so disgruntled with the Democratic Party and its slate of contenders that she might seek the Green Party nomination.

Reason magazine’s David Weigel picked up the story about a possible McKinney bid yesterday. In a blog post, he quoted McKinney’s musings on the White House race from a May 25 interview with New York radio station WBAI:

“Rather than talk about what other candidates don’t do, what I could probably rather talk about is what I could do as a potential candidate. So, you know, 2008 has not been ruled out, some kind of effort,” she told the interviewer. The Green Party courted McKinney for a run on its presidential ticket in 2000 and 2004, and the Georgia Democrat spoke at the California Green Party’s strategy retreat in February. She left office in 2006 after losing the Democratic primary.

Frequent Green candidate Ralph Nader has yet to jump into the race, although he has hinted at a possible run. STORY LINK HERE

The man now confined to an Atlanta hospital with a drug-resistant form of tuberculosis spent a night in an Albany motel room, according to New York state health officials.

The man’s jet-setting honeymoon triggered an international manhunt by public health officials who were trying to prevent the disease from spreading. Officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the man, who they would not identify, ignored warnings not to travel.

The CDC is reaching out to 80 airplane passengers who sat near him on two trans-Atlantic flights, but there is little concern that his visit to Albany exposed motel staff or guests to the disease.

The man spent two weeks abroad for his wedding in Greece and honeymoon through Europe, but cut the trip short when the CDC chased him down.

He and his wife flew to Montreal on May 24 without the CDC’s knowledge and drove through upstate New York. He spent that night at an Albany motel before turning himself in to a New York City hospital on Friday, said Claudia Hutton, state Health Department spokeswoman. READ MORE HERE

US prosecutors said they captured on Wednesday a nefarious Internet marketer responsible so much junk e-mail they called him “Spam King.”

Robert Soloway, 27, was arrested in Seattle, Washington, a week after being indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of identity theft, money laundering, and mail, wire, and e-mail fraud.

“Spam is a scourge of the Internet, and Robert Soloway is one of its most prolific practitioners,” said US Attorney for the Western District of Washington Jeffrey Sullivan.

“Our investigators dubbed him the ‘Spam King’ because he is responsible for millions of spam emails.”

Between November of 2003 and May of 2007 Soloway “spammed” tens of millions of e-mail messages to promote websites at which his company, Newport Internet Marketing, sold products and services, according to prosecutors. READ MORE HERE

Since he left office in 2001, former president Bill Clinton has been paid by $3.3 million by InfoUSA, an Omaha, Nebraska company that has been identified as a key provider of specially designed databases that have been sold to criminals who use the detailed information to defraud the unsuspecting elderly.

The consulting fees to the former president were only part of the largess InfoUSA showered on the former president.

Vinod Gupta, the CEO of InfoUSA, lent the Clintons the company’s jet which took them to places like Switzerland, Hawaii, Jamaica and Mexico.

The jet service was worth a staggering $900,000.

And Gupta gave the Clinton library a six-figure gift as well. Indeed, just months after he left the presidency, Bill Clinton was paid $200,000 for a speech given to InfoUSA in Omaha.

According to the The New York Times, InfoUSA compiled and sold lists that disclosed the names of elderly men and women who would be likely to respond to unscrupulous scams.

InfoUSA sold lists to companies that were under investigation or closed down by courts because of their criminal activity. The company’s internal emails show that employees were aware that the investigation for elderly fraud involved their customers, but sold the lists anyway.

The Times profiled one unfortunate 92-year-old man who entered a sweepstakes sponsored by InfoUSA. The information that he innocently provided was then sold to the predator marketers. After responding to their telemarketing calls seeking financial information, his entire life savings was stolen from his bank account at Wachovia Bank. These practices, using lists supplied by InfoUSA, were repeated all over the country.

Last week, Hillary Clinton sought and obtained an extension of time to file her presidential candidate financial disclosure statement.

Unlike the information required of Senators, this filing requires her to list not just the sources of Bill’s income but exactly how much they paid him.

While Senator Clinton offered no reason for the postponement, one cannot help wondering if a desire to conceal InfoUSA’s payments to her husband while the company is under fire.

The extent of the company’s payments to Bill only came out as a result of a lawsuit by disgruntled stockholders against the company management.

A frequent Clinton donor, he has stayed in the Lincoln Bedroom, admitted to donating $1,000,000 to the Clinton Library and told the press that he’d consider an additional donation.

Again, since the Clintons refuse to disclose who donated money to the library, we don’t know the total that he actually gave. In late 1999, Gupta gave $2,000,000 for Hillary Clinton’s Millennium New Year’s Eve bash. (They party cost $16 million and was closed to the press!) READ MORE HERE

 Sheehan, the soldier’s mother who galvanized an anti-war movement with her monthlong protest outside President Bush’s ranch, says she’s done being the public face of the movement. “I’ve been wondering why I’m killing myself and wondering why the Democrats caved in to George Bush,” Sheehan told The Associated Press by phone Tuesday, May 29, 2007 while driving from her property in Crawford to the airport, where she planned to return to her native California.

Kristinn Taylor, spokesman for FreeRepublic.com, which has held pro-troop rallies and counter-protests of anti-war demonstrations, said dwindling crowds at Sheehan’s Crawford protests since her initial vigil may have led to her decision. But he also said he hopes she will now be able to heal.

“Her politics have hurt a lot of people, including the troops and their families, but most of us who support the war on terror understand she is hurt very deeply,” Taylor said Tuesday. “Those she got involved with in the anti-war movement realize it was to their benefit to keep her in that stage of anger.” STORY LINK HERE

New York state legislators are resisting the call of mayors anxious to install red light cameras. Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown, for example, is facing legislative hurdles to his plan to use photo enforcement to deliver $13 million in revenue. The cameras require the prior approval of the General Assembly which currently authorizes cameras in New York City.
“My concern is, once you start to go down this slope, it starts to get very slippery,” Assembly Transportation Committee Chairman David F. Gantt (D-Rochester) told the Buffalo News. “If you do this, what’s next? Then people will want cameras to do other things…. It’s the old Big Brother watching.”

Buffalo has already found 38 locations for the cameras, expecting to install them in “places frequently trafficked by commuters coming into the city,” according to documents obtained by the News. Other documents show a strong focus on revenue.

“Why does the city not have a red light program?” asks one document prepared by the Buffalo police. “It would be worth the city’s time to see if this program has reduced intersection accidents and to see the amount of revenue it has generated in other cities like Baltimore, MD.“

Another document shows a city proposal to “de-synchronize traffic signals in order to slow down traffic,
especially along commercial strips.” Immediately following this proposal, the city recommends installing speed and red light cameras to “Aggressively enforce speed limits and other traffic violations,” committed by frustrated motorists. READ MORE HERE

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Many here south of the border reveled in her disastrous evening: First Miss USA Rachel Smith slipped and fell on her bottom during the Miss Universe evening gown competition. Then she was booed by hundreds in the Mexican audience.

The treatment of the Tennessee beauty queen was nothing personal. It had more to do with Mexico’s sometimes tense relationship with its powerful northern neighbor.

U.S. athletes have sparked a similar response. In 2005, when the U.S. played Mexico during a World Cup soccer qualifier, the crowd booed the U.S. national anthem and a smattering of fans chanted “Osama! Osama!” during the game.

Smith was booed repeatedly during her stay in Mexico, including last week, when she carried a guitar and wore an Elvis-style suit during a parade of national costumes held in downtown Mexico City.

She kept her poise during an interview Monday night with pageant judges, despite the boos and chants of “Mexico! Mexico!” that drowned out her answer.

A jury in northeastern Colorado has ruled that a pile of dog doo left in the entrance of the office of U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, R-Colo., was protected political speech, acquitting a critic of the congresswoman who admitted dumping the load.

“In Colorado the courts and jury have now made dog crap a right of freedom of speech. I can’t wait to be able to use this now,” said an anonymous commenter on the Free Republic website.

According to a report in the Greeley Tribune, a Weld County jury found Kathy Ensz, a 64-year-old retired university professor, innocent of charges for depositing, the, well, deposit.

“Democrats are ALWAYS dumping figurative doodoo on Republicans. So, now a judge says the literal expression is legal? Two new books on Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York offer fresh and often critical portraits of the Democratic presidential candidate that depict a tortured relationship with her husband and her past and challenge the image she has presented on the campaign trail.

The Hillary Clinton who emerges from the pages of the books comes across as a complicated, sometimes compromised figure who tolerated Bill Clinton’s brazen infidelity, pursued her policy and political goals with methodical drive, and occasionally skirted along the edge of the truth along the way. The books portray her as alternately brilliant and controlling, ambitious and victimized.

The Clinton campaign has nervously awaited publication of the books for fear they would include a bombshell revelation or, at the very least, revive memories of less-savory moments in the couple’s rise to power. The books, both by longtime journalists and both obtained by The Washington Post yesterday, include a number of assertions and anecdotes that could confront her campaign with unwelcome questions.

“A Woman in Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham Clinton,” by Carl Bernstein, reports that Clinton as first lady was terrified she would be prosecuted, took over her own legal and political defense, and decided not to be forthcoming with investigators because she was convinced she was unfairly targeted. While in Arkansas, according to Bernstein, she personally interviewed one woman alleged to have had an affair with her husband, contemplated divorce and thought about running for governor out of anger at her husband’s indiscretions.

“Her Way: The Hopes and Ambitions of Hillary Rodham Clinton,” by Jeff Gerth and Don Van Natta Jr., reports that during her husband’s 1992 campaign, a team she oversaw hired a private investigator to undermine Gennifer Flowers “until she is destroyed.” Flowers had said publicly that she had an affair with Bill Clinton while he was governor of Arkansas.

The book also suggests that Hillary Clinton did not read the National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq in 2002 before voting to authorize war. And it includes a thirdhand report that the Clintons had a secret plan after the 1992 election in which he would have eight years as president and then she would have eight years, although last night a key source disavowed the story.

The Clinton camp hopes to brush off the books as mainly rehashing old news. “Is it possible to be quoted yawning?” asked Philippe Reines, her Senate spokesman. If past books on Clinton were “cash for trash,” he added, “these books are nothing more than cash for rehash.” READ MORE HERE

Hillary announces current front runners for her campaign theme song competition. “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC conspicuously absent from the list

After last week’s promise — or threat — that Hillary Rodham Clinton will keep her singing to herself as long as her supporters pick a campaign song for her, Clinton’s campaign says it’s ready to announce the winner “in the coming days” as the votes come in.

Clinton has narrowed the original list of nine songs down to four, but added five more. In the process, her video appeal asking for help received more than 600,000 views.

Stealing a page from the “American Idol” playbook, and another from YouTube.com’s most popular clips, Clinton turned to the popular video-sharing site to post her public appeal to choose the campaign song last week.

In the style of self-deprecating humor used in last week’s clip (which showed an off-key attempt at singing the national anthem), she pokes a little more fun at herself with some of the not-so-ready for prime time submissions, plus some critics of the contest.

The problem now facing the Democratic presidential candidate is whether the pileup of headlines, including the latest regarding hefty fees from university speeches reported Monday by The Chronicle, threatens to obliterate Edwards‘ dominant campaign theme. The U.S. Navy staged its latest show of military force off the Iranian coastline on Wednesday, sending two aircraft carriers and landing ships packed with 17,000 U.S. Marines and sailors to carry out unannounced exercises in the Persian Gulf.

The carrier strike groups led by the USS John C. Stennis and USS Nimitz were joined by the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard and its own strike group, which includes landing ships carrying members of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

The Navy said nine U.S. warships passed through the narrow Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday. Merchant ships passing through the busy strait carry two-fifths of the world’s oil exports.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is leading a war on guns, and it may be just the first salvo in his drive to become president.

Many Americans may recognize Mayor Bloomberg for his company - Bloomberg L.P.

As the Republican mayor of New York City, he spent an astonishing $160 million to get elected in 2001 and re-elected in 2005.

Today, media entrepreneur Bloomberg is the 44th richest person in the United States and 142nd wealthiest person in the world, according to Forbes magazine, which in 2007 estimated his net worth at $5.5 billion. Fortune magazine last April calculated that his share of Bloomberg LP is worth $13 billion.

Bloomberg has already “set aside” $1 billion for an independent 2008 presidential campaign, reported the Washington Times last May.

Mayor Bloomberg might be a centrist in liberal New York City, say critics, but to most Americans his views are extreme, as evidenced by his no-holds-barred war against guns.

  “Our most urgent challenge is ending the threat of guns and the violence they do….,” re-elected Mayor Bloomberg declared in his January 1, 2006, Inaugural address. “Now we have a duty…one that rises above all partisan politics, and one we will pursue relentlessly: And that is to rid our streets of guns, and punish all those who possess and traffic in these instruments of death.”

Bloomberg’s determination to “punish all those who possess” firearms does not easily square with the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment right of citizens “to keep and bear arms.”

On April 25, 2006, Bloomberg hosted a gathering of 15 mayors to launch a new group called Mayors Against Illegal Guns. One year later this coalition, co-chaired by Bloomberg, had “over 210 mayors from more than 40 states.”

In early 2006 Bloomberg hired private investigators to carry out undercover sting operations at 45 gun stores in Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia. Firearms involved in New York City crimes had at some point been sold in these stores.

In a typical Bloomberg sting, a man and woman entered a gun store. The man agreed to buy a gun, then asked the woman to sign government forms. The aim was to simulate “straw purchases,” illegal acts in which one person who can pass a government background check signs government documents to purchase a firearm for someone else ineligible to buy a gun because of a criminal or mental health record.

Philip Van Cleave, president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League, has held raffles to raise legal defense money for two stores targeted by Bloomberg’s sting and lawsuits.

“The State of Virginia responded to Mayor Bloomberg by enacting a new law,” Van Cleave told NewsMax. “So starting in July 2007, anyone who does what Bloomberg’s agents did will be committing a felony. The U.S. Justice Department declined to file criminal charges against any of the firearms dealers stung by Bloomberg, but it has advised Bloomberg’s office that it could face “potential legal liabilities” if such sting operations continue.

“While Mayor Bloomberg engaged in secret vigilante-type actions trying to entrap clerks in gun stores,” said Van Cleave, “he never informed local, state or federal law enforcement about what he would be doing.” Bloomberg’s private sting operations in legal jurisdictions far from New York City may, according to one report, have “compromised” at least four criminal investigations by law enforcement agencies and put an additional 14 local, state or federal criminal cases “at risk.”

“Mayor Bloomberg wants access to the ATF’s [the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives] ‘trace data’ for guns used in crimes, data that by federal law is available only for legitimate on-going criminal investigations by law enforcement,” the founder of the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) Alan Gottlieb told NewsMax.

“This federal statute that Bloomberg and his cronies in Mayors Against Illegal Guns want to overturn,” said Gottlieb, “is essential to protecting information that if leaked could tip off criminals to an undercover federal investigation, or could endanger the life of an undercover officer.

“Bloomberg wants access to that information solely for the purpose of mounting harassment lawsuits against law-abiding businesses,” said Gottlieb. “It’s got nothing to do with fighting crime, and a lot to do with feeding his own desire for self-aggrandizement.”

“Mayor Bloomberg has repeatedly conspired to violate federal firearms laws,” the Executive Director of Gun Owners of America (GOA) Larry Pratt told NewsMax. “He sent private investigators to other states using false identifications. If you or I did this, we’d have the book thrown at us,” Pratt said, “so why isn’t Mayor Bloomberg on trial or in jail for what he’s done?”

“I see Bloomberg as a politician,” said Van Cleave. “He doesn’t know how to deal with the criminal element. He finds it easier not to blame criminals or his own shortcomings for crime in his city. He’d rather blame New York City crime on a store clerk several states away in Virginia – or blame the gun.”

“It’s no surprise to us that Mayor Bloomberg has been harshly criticized by the U.S. Justice Department for his vigilante sting operations against firearms dealers outside New York,” a spokesperson for the National Rifle Association (NRA) Ashley Varner told NewsMax.

“The National Rifle Association is on the side of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Department of Justice,” said Varner. “We are against politicians who want to dig into the pockets of gun manufacturers and retailers.”

Thusfar, Bloomberg’s sting operations, and his lawsuits threatening to hold small firearms stores liable for millions of dollars of damages purportedly caused by guns they sold, have driven two stores out of business. Former President Carter recently lashed out at the Bush administration, calling it “the worst in history” in international relations.

But Investor’s Business Daily believes the “worst” label applies to Carter.

In an editorial headlined “Carter: Our Worst Ex-President?” the newspaper slams the ex-president for his book “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid,” saying “Carter has deservedly been hammered for his twisted anti-Israel beliefs. Now, his namesake Carter Center has been rocked by the departure of a number of well-respected board members, angry over the book.”

Calling the book “a doozy,” IBD says it is permeated with anti-Israel bias. It also rips Carter for telling a “truly big whopper” in claiming that the late Yasser Arafat, Hamas and others in the Palestinian leadership are men of peace.

EAST GREENBUSH — A social studies teacher at Columbia High School was charged Monday with repeatedly having oral sex in his classroom with a 16-year-old male student during the school day.Late last week a rumor circulated at Columbia High School that social studies teacher Kirk James Hellwig, 37, of Patricia Lane, Saratoga Springs, was allegedly carrying on a sexual relationship during school time with one of his students.

“One of our officers who is stationed at the school was approached by two principals about the rumor,” said town Police Chief Christopher Lavin. “We then searched some premises, collected evidence, interviewed numerous individuals and reviewed computer activity.”

Hellwig, who is single and has taught social studies at the school since 1999, was arrested Monday morning on three counts each of felony third-degree criminal sex act and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

He was arraigned in town court Monday and released on $25,000 bail. He is set to reappear in court at 6 p.m. Thursday, unless the case is presented to a grand jury. WHOLE STORY HERE

If you think your college tuition is high now, just let John Edwards come give a speech about poverty for $55,000

John Edwards has an example to teach University of California at Davis students how to avoid poverty — charge $55,000 for a speech.

That’s how much the 2008 Democratic presidential candidate negotiated for his fee to speak to 1,787 people at the taxpayer-funded school in January 2006, according to financial disclosures.

According to Joe Martin, the public relations officer for UC Davis’ Mondavi Center, the fee for a speech entitled, “Poverty, the Great Moral issue Facing America,” was worth it to school officials.

Martin told The San Francisco Chronicle that the center paid Edwards because at the time “he wasn’t a (presidential) candidate and from our point of view, he was a speaker of interest that people in the community were clearly interested in … we feel it’s our mission to present those speakers.”

The speaking fee, which amounts to about $31 per audience member, was the highest EVER PAID by UC Davis.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won’t see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it’s too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.

With guns, we are ‘citizens’.
Without them, we are ’subjects’.

AN Essex girl may be the first lady with a tongue stud to have set her sights on the White House. The wife of Dennis Kucinich, a left-wing Democratic congressman and 2008 presidential candidate, is a 29-year-old hippie chick from Upminster at the end of London Underground’s District line.

Elizabeth Kucinich, née Harper, has been on the stump with her husband, a 60-year-old anti-war campaigner from Cleveland, Ohio, mingling with the likes of Hillary Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama backstage at the Democratic presidential debates. “There’s a kind of camaraderie,” she said.

A 6ft tall willowy redhead who has been compared to Arwen Evenstar, the Lord of the Rings character, she towers over her diminutive husband. “Who cares?” she said in an interview. “I like wearing high heels so I’m used to being taller than most men I stand next to.”

Nor is she bothered by their 31-year age difference. “I have never noticed it at all,” she said. “Dennis is a very mature but young-at-heart gentleman and we complement each other.”

It was in India that she encountered somebody with a tongue stud and later had her own implanted — a bar with two delicate balls on either side.

On her MySpace website she lists one of her favourite bands as Coldplay and says her heroes are “my beautiful husband and anyone else who embraces peace”. She describes Dennis as a “very philosophical, deep thinking person” rather than a new age type, but he is a vegan, unlike her — she still cannot resist occasional dairy products.

“The rest of the world was sending out its love to America but US officials just wanted to kick out. I remember thinking then I’d love to come to America and help them to reconcile with the rest of the world,” she said.

A shy girl in class, she has now learnt to speak in front of thousands of peaceniks and activists on behalf of her husband and his presidential campaign. Dennis was slated for his anti-war views when he first ran for president in 2004 but now “represents the voice of the majority”, she said. “Americans have come to understand he was right all along.”

Just a month ago, Rudy Giuliani was riding high in polls of Republican voters for their party’s 2008 presidential nomination. The former mayor of New York enjoyed near universal name recognition and a sterling reputation for leadership and decisiveness in the aftermath of 9/11.

And his liberal stands on divisive issues such as abortion? Maybe a new day had dawned, in which enough social conservative voters would put security concerns ahead of the culture wars to nominate a liberal Republican, some party activists had suggested. Others touted Mr. Giuliani’s strength in the GOP field as a sign that theirs was a “big tent” party.

Now, the tide seems to be shifting. Giuliani’s poll numbers have flattened noticeably in the past few weeks, following the first GOP debate early this month and the ensuing news coverage over his conflicted answer on abortion rights.

In the latest Cook Political Report/RT Strategies poll, Giuliani leads Sen. John McCain (R) of Arizona by just one point, 25 percent to 24 percent, down from a seven-point lead at the end of April. In the Gallup poll, Giuliani’s lead over Senator McCain has shrunk from 14 points in early May to six points in mid-May.

New York State again led the nation in taxes in 2005, with each resident paying an average of $5,770 in state and local levies, and one local leader said that won’t change unless there’s a “taxpayer revolt.”

In a report released yesterday, the 3,000-member Business Council of New York State found the per-capita tax burden in fiscal 2004-05 was the highest in the country, or 36 percent above the national average of $3,699. Beatdown victim, 91, has appropriate words for his 22-year-old attacker and the spineless worms who watched it happen and did nothing

The purple bruises on 91-year-old Leonard Sims’ face are painful reminders of the brutal beating he took at the hands of a carjacker.

Deonte Edward Bradley, 22, of Detroit was arraigned last week in the beating and carjacking outside a west side party store May 4 that was captured on video and broadcast on local and national news shows.

Since the video was first broadcast locally Thursday, it has aired on cable channels MSNBC and CNN, stirring national outrage with each airing.

Sims hopes he’ll get to testify in the Bradley case and give his young attacker a piece of his mind.

“I would tell him he was a coward, not a man,” said Sims at his west side home Tuesday. “I would tell him what he did to me was uncalled for, unjust and unfaithful.”

And he’s not mincing his words about the group of bystanders who stood by and watched the attack.

“They were cowards,” said Sims, a retired barber who owned a shop on Woodward and Euclid. “A whole group of them just stood and looked.”

The passer-by who confronted and killed the gunman in last Friday’s police shooting was an expert marksman who used to alarm his neighbors by firing guns on his own property, court records show.

“I am an ex-Marine and an expert shot. I don’t miss what I shoot at,” Gregory Floyd, 49, told police officers who searched his home in 1997.

Authorities have decided not to charge Floyd in Friday’s shooting, ruling he was justified when he fired at Liko Kenney, 24, just moments after watching Kenney shoot and kill Franconia Police Cpl. Bruce McKay.

Kenney’s uncle, Bill, said he is not angry at Floyd.

“I thank him,” Bill Kenney said yesterday. “He did an amazing thing.”

A “loner” by reputation, Floyd has declined to speak with reporters since the shootings. A woman who answered the phone at his house Sunday said, “This is a private, unlisted, unpublished number. Please don’t call again.” READ MORE HERE

Presidential hopeful John McCain said Monday that although it’s not impossible for a Republican candidate who favors abortionS to win the nomination, such a candidate would face long odds.

“I think it’s one of the fundamental principles of a conservative to have respect and commitment to the dignity of human life, both the born and unborn,” McCain said in an interview with The Associated Press. “It makes it tough because the Republican Party is basically composed to a significant degree by people who are pro-life, just as the Democratic Party has pro-choice candidates.”

“I would assume that the Republican Party would judge a candidate on all of his or her resume and record and vision,” said McCain, R-Ariz.

While possible, it would be difficult to overcome that hurdle, he said.

“I think anything is possible, but I don’t think it would be real easy,” McCain said.

Giuliani has expressed pro-abortion support --donating six times to the pro-death group Planned Parenthood, and Fred Thompson has gone on record in l994: “Abortions should be legal in all circumstances as long as the procedure is completed within the first trimester of the pregnancy.”

A Unadilla man facing federal sex-crime charges is scheduled for a detention hearing Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Binghamton.

A June 25 trial date has been set in the case against Michael J. Frascatore, 42.

Frascatore was indicted April 12 on felony charges of child pornography and attempting to solicit sex from a minor.

According to the FBI, the former Oneonta-based Army recruiter had sexually charged conversations with a Washington State University police officer posing online as a 13-year-old girl, and he allegedly sent the undercover officer child pornography

Frascatore was returned by U.S. Marshalls (ED NOTES–The Star spelled Marshal incorrectly )to the New York area from Wisconsin, where he was arrested in early April, according to federal court officials.

Frascatore, who is being held in the Onondaga County Correctional Facility without bail, is being represented by Syracuse attorney Kenneth Moynihan, who did not return a call for comment Monday.

Americo Martinucci, of Tony’s Pizza, Unadilla, who is accused of videotaping himself having sex with a minor, will be tried June 18. STORY LINK THE DAILY STAR
