It’s with great pride that we announce that Michael Schuyler, Co-Chair of the McCain Victory Organization 2008 has appointed The Catskill Commentator an official blog of the McCain campaign.

http://mccain08olc.blogspot.com/

We are honored to share that honor with only 90 other blogs online now listed with the McCain sites and volunteer blogs.

We have endorsed John McCain since April of 2007 (see link to the right). Read our details there, and then support John by clicking the link.

Experience matters –both in blogging and running a country.

We have publishing and naval aviation experience, and served under Admirals Bardshar and Bunkie Weisner (John’s former bosses) and therefore we’re qualified to make the endorsement that matters more now than before in the history of the country.

So saddle up, troopers, or bag drag that seabag, (or whatever you Air Force types say) and support John S. McCain by clicking the links to the right and donating your time and dollars for victory.

In the meantime, keep reading the Commentator for the straight skinny on what’s happening, as we attempt to keep the mainstream press honest.

CLAW MACHINE–THE NEXT GOLD MINE February 29, 2008

claw machineWhile bagging groceries after shopping with my hausfrau today, I was treated to the sight of the Claw Machine Man fixing the “entertainment device” at the local supermarket.

I saw a man with a toolbelt unlock the machine, and pull out the money checking mechanism. I inquired of the cashier, “what’s wrong with the claw machine?”

She told me that it stopped working last night.

Wow..that’s pretty fast service to get a guy in at 10 AM the next day. Try that with a plumber.

At that time, the manager, a jovial guy we’ve known in the store for years, comes charging around the corner to converse with the fixer of the machine.

I stopped bagging, and went over to a nearby bench to sit, listen, and pretend to tie my shoe.

“What’s up with the claw, Frank?” asked the manager.

“Here’s your problem, Bill,” said the technician as he pulled dollar bills out of a roller mechanism.

“The moneybox is full. It’s jammed.”

The tech pulls out a wooden box the size of shoebox and begins to count out dollar bills. By the time he’s done, there’s a stack of about 12 inches high. He peels of about 50 bucks worth of ones, and gives them surrepticiously to the manager who stuffs them in his pocket.

We measured $20 worth of ones,(apx 1/4 inch –I’m being fiscally conservative here), there’s more than $100/inch of bills. Making the pile about $1200 worth.

Now I’ve seen these dang machines everywhere.–Wal Mart, McDonalds, the local pizza parlor — just about anywhere foot traffic and dollar bills exist. And everyone from adults to 3 year olds playing them. And for what? A cheapo basketball, made in China –stuffed toy — stickers? Cell phone?

So we did a little research.

You can buy one of these things used for about $500-1,000 dollars. The bear toy ones seem the most popular. You stock them with about $50 bucks worth of junk (sold on E-bay), and off you go. There’s no shelf life, no refrigeration, no insurance, no spoilage, no licensing (mostly), and little maintenance. And aside from the ripoff factor, little to go wrong. As it’s a cash business, well you know what to fill the blanks in with here.

Now the crooked part: You can fix the machines so the payback is light. How? Stuff the bears/toys full and interlocking with each other, so they’re hard to pull apart and the claw will slip off. Also you can adjust the grip of the claw as you would lighten the pull of a gun trigger — by honing the mechanism and lightening the springs.

But why bother? You WANT people to play the game. You are selling them stuff — you want your machine to be –GASP!– dare I say it? LIBERAL.

And apparently, there’s no way to externally cheat the device.

Quite a far cry from the days we played pinball on the way home from school at the local bowling alley for a dime.(I had  discovered I could always get free games using a big magnet from a 15-inch loudspeaker wrapped in felt to manipulate the ball.

Yeah, I was the Pinball Wizard.

And I didn’t have a supple wrist.

But the Claw Machine sure does.

Wow do I have a job for Uncle Chet!

GUESS WHAT? GUNS STOP CRIME February 29, 2008

When sexual assaults started rising in Orlando, Fla., in 1966, police officers noticed women were arming themselves, so they launched a firearms safety course for them. Over the next 12 months, sexual assaults plummeted by 88 percent, burglaries fell by 25 percent and not one of the 2,500 women who took the course fired a gun in a confrontation.

And that, says a new brief submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court by police officers and prosecutors in a controversial gun-ban dispute, is why gun ownership is important and should be available to individuals in the United States.

The arguments come in an amicus brief submitted by the Law Enforcement Alliance of America, whose spokesman, Ted Deeds, told WND there now are 92 different law enforcement voices speaking together to the Supreme Court in the Heller case.

That pending decision will decide whether an appeals court ruling striking down a District of Columbia ban on handguns because it violates the 2nd Amendment will stand or not. The gun ban promoters essentially argue that any gun restriction that is ruled “reasonable” is therefore constitutional, such as the D.C. handgun ban.

[...]

The brief notes when the Georgia town of Kennesaw decided to require all residents, with exceptions for conscientious objectors, to keep a firearm at home, home burglaries fell from 66 to 26 to 11 in consecutive years.

In Orlando, the deterrence to criminals who simply knew that their victims may have a gun and may know how to use it and may be willing to do just that had a significant impact, because while Orlando’s rapes were plummeting, assaults were up 5 percent across the state and 7 percent nationally.

The brief cites a study that discovered, based on interviews with felony prisoners in 11 prisons in 10 states, one third of the felons had been “scared off, shot at, wounded or captured by an armed victim,” and nearly four in 10 had decided against committing a specific crime because they thought the victim might have a gun.

“Seventy-four percent agreed with the statement that ‘One reason burglars avoid houses where people are at home is that they fear being shot,’” the study said.

[...]

He said gun control originally was sold to Americans as a way to lower crime, but he disagreed. “People who sell this idea that bad guys are going to stop because of one more law are just full of it,” he said.

“That’s a lie. That’s a fraud,” he said. He also said it’s a terribly slippery slope to say that under the 2nd Amendment, some gun restrictions are good because they are “reasonable.”

“We are hoping that they [the Supreme Court] make a very clear, very unambiguous decision in favor of the 2nd Amendment,” Deeds told WND. STORY LINK

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said 30 fugitive aliens were arrested in the Binghamton area this week as part of a multi-state sweep to find illegal aliens who fail to leave the country after being ordered to do so by a federal judge.

A team of law enforcement officers operating from Buffalo made arrests in Binghamton and in Syracuse, where 22 fugitive aliens were arrested, officials said.

Of the 52 aliens arrested by Buffalo agents in Syracuse and Binghamton, 21 were fugitives, and 22 were aliens with criminal convictions, officials said. Customs agents in Binghamton arrested one person with felony convictions of burglary and criminal possession of a weapon and another man convicted of felony rape involving a minor, ICE officials said. IF I WERE PRESIDENT February 27, 2008

If I were President, I’d do the following. The devil with congress, there’s too much BS and sniveling and time wasting over crap like baseball steroid useage. I’d rule by Presidential fiat, decree, and executive order. By the time the question of authority were settled, years would have passed. Okay, here we go:

  • NO BORDER FENCE. Security at the border would be handled as it is on the Chinese frontier. Minefields , sensors, razorwire, helicopter patrols. Establish a 700 mile long, half-mile wide Army base from San Diego to Texas Gulf.
  • Mandatory 6 month drug tests for any public official –from dogcatcher to the President of the US. This plan will keep out the Kennedy’s, Moynahans (yes, alcohol is a drug) and keep the unclear thinking of the drug addicted from interfering with the business at hand.
  • MILITARY, SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS would receive a minimum of $50,000 per year TO START, as would fire and police  and medical personnel.
  • ALL VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS and other veterans  as designated would be exempt from State and Federal income taxes for life, and also receive free medical care anywhere in the US from any provider they choose. Their family members and they would also receive free college educations.
  • ALL STATES and the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT would be required to have balanced budgets. All tax increases and pay raises would be subject to prior approval by referendum.
  • ALL SUPREME COURT POSITIONS would be for a maximum of 5 years, and subject to recall by popular petition and vote. Any Supreme Court decision could be overturned by a 2/3 vote of the Congress, or by Presidential Executive Order issued due to “National Security”.
  • ALL CITIZENS OF LEGAL AGE who pass a Federal Test and course, will be required to carry concealed a handgun of at least .38 calibre at all times, and qualify at least twice a year.
  • ALL EMPLOYERS would be responsible for employing only citizens or legal aliens. NO EXCEPTIONS. Any illegal alien found within the US will be promptly arrested/deported/or tried for crimes. This would be a requirement of all police agencies within the United States. Any person found aiding/abetting would be likewise charged.
  • TAXES WOULD BE RAISED on a national sales tax basis. Food, clothing, medicine and automobiles under $5,000 of value would be exempt.
  • NATIONAL HEALTH CARE INSURANCE would be optional. The cost of same would be raised by a $1 per drink tax on bar beverages, a $5/pack tax on tobacco, and a $1 tax on junk food. An entrance fee of $2 per day would be extracted from patrons of casinos, ski lodges, and expensive hotels and entertainment events. Private aircraft and boats over a certain size would have a $500 tax added yearly, as would snowmobiles used for pleasure. Videogames, DVD’s, golf clubs, etc. would be subject to tax.
  • PBS FUNDING WOULD BE ELIMINATED, as would endowments for the arts. The public should not fund another person’s entertainment.
  • ANY EARMARK/PORK PROJECT would be subject to line-item veto, or outlawed altogether.
  • LOBBYING would be outlawed.
  • NATIONALIZATION of Saudi-Iraqui oilfields. For the good of the entire world, we cannot continue to allow terrorists or despots to control the world’s wealth. The cost of the “police action” which would be a multinational consortium of mercenary tough guys, would be paid for out of oil revenues. No US Military would be involved. Recently a Saudi prince paid 14 million dollars for a license plate (Number 1). There’s no good reason for terrorist fools to control that sort of wealth.
  • ABORTION would be immediately outlawed. It is simply not necessary and is in fact murder.
  • AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE would be optional. It works this way in New Hampshire, and the Insurance Mafia would have no longer a stranglehold on the poor. If you want insurance, you insure yourself against the uninsured.
  • ALL MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES under the age of 21 would be allowed to drink legally.
  • NEW YORK CITY, CHICAGO, LOS ANGELES, DETROIT, SAN FRANCISCO, BOSTON, SEATTLE and other cities as designated will become their own states with senators, congressmen, etc. This will relieve the suffering residents of the rest of the state from the City controlling their lives and impounding their monies.

More later when I reveal who would be my Cabinet…

THE NANNY STATE: KID SUSPENDED FOR HAIR February 27, 2008

A kindergarten student with a freshly spiked Mohawk has been suspended from school. ADVERTISEMENT

Michelle Barile, the mother of 6-year-old Bryan Ruda, said nothing in the Parma Community School handbook prohibits the haircut, characterized by closely shaved sides with a strip of prominent hair on top. The school said the hair was a distraction for other students.

“I understand they have a dress code. I understand he has a uniform. But this is total discrimination,” she said. “They can’t tell me how I can cut his hair.”

An administrator at the suburban Cleveland charter school first warned Barile last fall that the haircut wasn’t acceptable. The school later sent another warning to her reiterating the ban. STORY LINK

OBAMA IN BED WITH TERRORISTS February 25, 2008

Senator helped fund organization that rejects ‘racist’ Israel’s existence

The board of a nonprofit organization on which Sen. Barack Obama served as a paid director alongside a confessed domestic terrorist granted funding to a controversial Arab group that mourns the establishment of Israel as a “catastrophe” and supports intense immigration reform, including providing drivers licenses and education to illegal aliens.

The co-founder of the Arab group in question, Columbia University professor Rashid Khalidi, also has held a fundraiser for Obama. Khalidi is a harsh critic of Israel, has made statements supportive of Palestinian terror and reportedly has worked on behalf of the Palestine Liberation Organization while it was involved in anti-Western terrorism and was labeled by the State Department as a terror group.

In 2001, the Woods Fund, a Chicago-based nonprofit that describes itself as a group helping the disadvantaged, provided a $40,000 grant to the Arab American Action Network, or AAAN, for which Khalidi’s wife, Mona, serves as president. The Fund provided a second grant to the AAAN for $35,000 in 2002.

Obama was a director of the Woods Fund board from 1999 to Dec. 11, 2002, according to the Fund’s website. According to tax filings, Obama received compensation of $6,000 per year for his service in 1999 and 2001.

ARGUING WITH A LIBERAL February 24, 2008

Posted by Commentator in Uncategorized.

Arguing with a liberal is like arguing with your eleven year old after he’s been told to put the Game Boy away because homework isn’t finished yet.

“I’m almost done.”

“No, put it away right now.”

“But Daddy, this level is almost…” You take the toy away because it was already his third warning and now eleven year old boy is attitude boy. (Just the way a liberal cops an attitude when his arguments fall apart. Too bad we can’t give them a spank. ”Bad liberal, bad liberal. You lie one more time little liberal and I’m going to have to wash your mouth out with soap!”)

Back to eleven year old, “You’re so mean, that level is hard…”

“Shut up and do your homework or this sucker is going in the trash, and don’t you dare stop pouting, I want to see that miserable look stuck to your face for the rest of the evening!”

A liberal’s idea of countering a debate is telling you you’re an ass or a liar, or a meanie, and never acknowledging or rebutting any points or facts with intellectually understandable arguments. Come to think of it, my eleven year old arguing for Game Boy makes a little more sense than a liberal.

While conservatives chide liberals for their willingness to supplant intent and goals in the U.S. Constitution, almost uniformly their response to these assertions is, “What about Guantanamo!” Invariably followed by, “George Bush is a Nazi!”

Honolulu Zoo administrators will review all holding procedures following a breach today that allowed an 8-year-old, 245-pound male Sumatran tiger to roam into an unsecured area.

Sidney A. Quintal, city director of Enterprise Service, said the 8:15 a.m. incident that started in the new 3-month-old holding area of the Sumatran tiger exhibit was quickly resolved without injury to personnel and animal.

“We were very fortunate, everything was in our favor,” Quintal said in pointing out that Berani, the tiger involved, is the tamest of the three tigers in the exhibit and the incident occurred before the zoo was open.

The breach was caused by human error, Quintal said. STORY LINK

General Motors Corp Vice Chairman Bob Lutz has defended remarks he made dismissing global warming as a “total crock of s—,” saying his views had no bearing on GM’s commitment to build environmentally friendly vehicles.

Lutz, GM’s outspoken product development chief, has been under fire from Internet bloggers since last month when he was quoted as making the remark to reporters in Texas.

In a posting on his GM blog on Thursday, Lutz said those “spewing virtual vitriol” at him for minimizing the threat of climate change were “missing the big picture.”

“What they should be doing in earnest is forming opinions, not about me but about GM and what this company is doing that is … hugely beneficial to the causes they so enthusiastically claim to support,” he said in a posting titled, “Talk About a Crock.”

According to unknown, unnamed, but usually reliable sources which we cannot reveal, Elvis Aaron Prestly is alive and well and living behind the 10,000 gallon black ink tank in the Pressroom of the New York Times in New Jersey.

Also sighted in the printing plant were: The Three Bears, The Three Stooges, The Three Amigos, and a roughed-up Bill Keller, who clung to his Teddy Bear and sobbed pitifully. Keller, when approached, indicated his desire to return to his vacation hovel somewhere near Murfreesboro, TN to resume his hobby of abstract navelgazing.

Again, you must believe the story. It’s the New York Times ..

FROM: News.com.au:

Shlomo Benizri of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish Shas Party said the only way to prevent the earthquakes was for parliament to stop liberalising laws concerning homosexuals, AP reported.

“Why do earthquakes happen? One of the reasons is the things to which the Knesset (parliament) gives legitimacy, to sodomy,” Mr Benizri said.

[...]

Mr Benizri said earthquake damage could be avoided if the parliament stopped “passing legislation on how to encourage homosexual activity in the state of Israel, which anyway brings about earthquakes”.

Two earthquakes originating in Lebanon have shaken Israel in the past week. The first occurred two days after the Israeli attorney-general ruled that same-sex couples could adopt children. STORY LINK

BILL KELLER’S SKELETONS February 21, 2008

From www.deceiver.com:

Quick: Which One Had An Affair?

keller-and-mccain.jpg

By now, we’ve all heard that The New York Times has hinted that U.S. presidential candidate John McCain may have had an inappropriate romantic relationship with a female lobbyist eight years ago. McCain denied this morning that he cheated on his wife Cindy, appearing with her at a press conference to insist: “I am very disappointed in the New York Times piece. It’s not true.” He also explained that he had spoken with Times Executive Editor Bill Keller in an attempt to set the record straight and persuade the paper to spike the story. Keller appears to have made the decision to run it.

This is where it gets interesting.

In a September 2006 New York magazine story, journalist Joe Hagan described the circumstances behind Keller’s marriage to his second wife, the French gin-namesake Emma Gilbey (who is also an ex-something of U.S. Senator John Kerry, but I digress…) and his divorce from National Public Radio reporter Ann Cooper.

Here’s the important bit from the 2006 New York piece:

… Keller wrote one last piece on South Africa, an article for the Times Magazine about Nelson Mandela’s wife, Winnie, in which he cited a book called The Lady: The Life and Times of Winnie Mandela. The following week, the magazine published a letter by the book’s author [Emma Gilbey] …

After reading the letter, Keller called Gilbey, a British journalist living in New York, and asked her to coffee at the Times cafeteria. Gilbey, at the time, had a reputation as something of a power-dater; her exes included Senator John Kerry and Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour. An affair ensued, which shocked Keller’s friends. “I felt bad for everyone involved,” says Stephen Engelberg, a former Times reporter. “This was not characteristic behavior at all. I wouldn’t pretend to be Bill’s psychologist, but he didn’t get a red sports car, so …”

Two years after they met, Gilbey was pregnant, Keller was divorced from Cooper, and he had a new job as [Times] managing editor.

COP MAIMING CRIMINAL GETS HIS February 21, 2008

DATELINE: Ulster County, New York. Finally, justice is served as this douchebag cop shooter gets his at the hands of his compadres…

A man who gained notoriety after wounding six police officers in a 1986 gunfight that led to a nationwide manhunt was killed in prison, corrections officials said Thursday.

Larry Davis, serving 25 years to life on a murder conviction in an unrelated case, was stabbed to death around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday during a recreational break at Shawangunk Correctional Facility in Ulster County, said Erik Kriss, a spokesman for the state Department of Correctional Services.

Davis was stabbed repeatedly with a 12-inch long, half-inch wide homemade metal shank in the arms, head, back, upper thigh and chest, Kriss said.

“I don’t know what was happening at this exact moment,” he said, adding that prison staff were in the yard when a fight was observed and inmates began congregating. “Things happen quickly.”

Another inmate at the prison 80 miles north of the city was being questioned in Davis’ death by state police and the inspector general for corrections and had been placed in a segregated cell, Kriss said. The inmate had not been charged in Davis’ death as of early Thursday.

Davis, 41, had most recently been convicted in 1991 of fatally shooting a suspected drug dealer in the Bronx.

Five years earlier, police had gone to an apartment to arrest him as a suspect in the slayings of five other drug dealers.

During the ensuing shootout, Davis escaped unhurt through a window, setting off a 17-day manhunt that involved hundreds of officers. He eventually surrendered to police after being tracked to a housing project where one of his sisters lived, where he held a woman and her children hostage in an all-night standoff before giving up, police said at the time.

[...]

A jury acquitted him of attempted murder and aggravated assault. He was instead convicted on weapons charges and sentenced to five to 15 years in prison.

The gunfight and Davis’ flight from the law made him a folk hero to some and a symbol of outrage to others, especially law enforcement. More than 1,500 officers incensed by the verdict gathered outside the courthouse to demand the maximum penalty. STORY LINK

[...]reports from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that reveal that almost all the allegedly “lost” ice has come back. A NOAA report shows that ice levels which had shrunk from 5 million square miles in January 2007 to just 1.5 million square miles in October, are almost back to their original levels.

[...]

Moreover, a Feb. 18 report in the London Daily Express showed that there is nearly a third more ice in Antarctica than usual, challenging the global warming crusaders and buttressing arguments of skeptics who deny that the world is undergoing global warming.

The Daily express recalls the photograph of polar bears clinging on to a melting iceberg which has been widely hailed as proof of the need to fight climate change and has been used by former Vice President Al Gore during his “Inconvenient Truth” lectures about mankind’s alleged impact on the global climate.

Gore fails to mention that the photograph was taken in the month of August when melting is normal. Or that the polar bear population has soared in recent years.

Jerusalem, Damascus, Amman, and northern Saudi Arabia report the heaviest falls in years and below-zero temperatures. In Afghanistan, snow and freezing weather killed 120 people. Even Baghdad had a snowstorm, the first in the memory of most residents.

Meanwhile Athens News reports that a raging snow storm that blanketed most of Greece over the weekend and continued into the early morning hours on Monday, plunging the country into sub-zero temperatures. The agency reported that public transport buses were at a standstill on Monday in the wider Athens area, while ships remained in ports, public services remained closed, and schools and courthouses in the more severely-stricken prefectures were also closed.

Scores of villages, mainly on the island of Crete, and in the prefectures of Evia, Argolida, Arcadia, Lakonia, Viotia, and the Cyclades islands were snowed in.

More than 100 villages were snowed-in on the island of Crete and temperatures in Athens dropped to -6 C before dawn, while the coldest temperatures were recorded in Kozani, Grevena, Kastoria and Florina, where they plunged to -12 C.STORY LINK

The post below concerning Doctor Rossiter’s book, has generated a few vicious posts from crazed liberals (most of them operating from college campuses) spewing venom and making personal attacks on me and Mr. Rossiter, although of course they know neither of us. How DARE I delete their vomitous comments?

(ED NOTE–That’s why I’m the Editor–that’s what we do. Read the TOS in the Legal tab above. I rest my case–aparently there’s nothing to do in Murfreesboro, TN)

One demented fool had the audacity to post a link to his/her/it’s blog in the comments, thinking that I’d leave that in the comments.

Wrong-O, Einstein.

I did however go to the site, and of course, there was a fullpage blast of boilerplate denouncing us and the book. Thanks for the linkeage and publicity. The more of your kind who read this blog the better. You can never be exposed to too much truth.

When I see raving schmutz trying to be posted, I’m amused, and gleefully hit the ‘delete’ key, as we moderate all posts to keep  crud off the blog.  As an old saying in computerdom goes, GIGO — Garbage In  equals Garbage Out.

I love it when they whine — that’s the sound of defeat and they’re pretty stupid to even do it.  By whining, they let me know I’ve hit ‘em where it hurts.

So, folks, whiz them off by moderating your blogs, and ruthlessly deleting crap.

And go to the link below, and purchase Dr Rossiter’s book.

That will really piss ‘em off.

Have a ruthless and Conservative day, now, Y’ hear?

Eminent psychiatrist makes case ideology is mental disorder

“Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded,” says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, “The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness.” “Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave.”

[..]

For more than 35 years he has diagnosed and treated more than 1,500 patients as a board-certified clinical psychiatrist and examined more than 2,700 civil and criminal cases as a board-certified forensic psychiatrist. He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago.

Rossiter says the kind of liberalism being displayed by the two major candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination can only be understood as a psychological disorder.

[...]

Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:
creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
augmenting primitive feelings of envy;
rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

“The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind,” he says. “When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious.” STORY LINK

FULL STORY HERE

WASHINGTON — Republican John McCain says there will be no new taxes during his administration if he is elected president.

“No new taxes,” the likely GOP presidential nominee said during a taped interview broadcast Sunday.

McCain told ABC’s “This Week” that under no circumstances would he increase taxes, and added that he could “see an argument, if our economy continues to deteriorate, for lower interest rates, lower tax rates, and certainly decreasing corporate tax rates,” as well as giving people the ability to write off depreciation and eliminating the alternative minimum tax. EDITOR’S NOTES:  It couldn’t be simpler. Vote for McCain=lower taxes. Hillary, on the other hand, has pledged to increase taxes. If you love taxes, vote for Hildebeast.  Al Czervic MORE MORE MORE

GREENWASHING RAMPANT–

If buying Earth-friendly products gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling, consider this: An astounding 99.9 per cent of so-called green products make false, misleading or unsubstantiated claims, according to a study last year by TerraChoice Environmental Marketing.

Companies have become so adept at making themselves and their products look more environmentally friendly than they really are, the practice has its own name: greenwashing.

Natural. Non-toxic. Chemical-free. Biodegradable. They sound good. But what do they mean?

“Anybody can go ahead and make that claim for their product and nobody has to verify that claim at all,” says Urvashi Rangan, senior scientist and policy analyst for the Consumers Union in Yonkers, N.Y., publisher of Consumer Reports magazine.

“Frankly, the vaguer it sounds, the less you should rely on it.”

TerraChoice investigated 1,018 “green” products sold in U.S. big-box stores and found all but one - paper towel made by a Quebec company, Cascades - make unsubstantiated, misleading or false claims. STORY LINK

SUCK IT, BUSH HATERS–AFRO’S LOVE HIM February 17, 2008

George W. Bush is basking in rare adulation on his African tour.

Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete poured praise on Bush in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, the second day of his five-nation African tour, each compliment applauded warmly by members of the east African country’s cabinet.

Although around 2,000 Muslim demonstrators protested against Bush on the eve of his visit, many thousands more cheering, waving people lined his road from the airport on Saturday.

Banners across the route, decorated with Bush’s image against a backdrop of Tanzania’s Mt. Kilimanjaro, read: “We cherish democracy. Karibu (welcome) to President and Mrs Bush.”

[...]

Others read: “Thank you for helping fight malaria and HIV.” Dancers at the airport and at Kikwete’s state house to greet Bush on Sunday, wore skirts and shirts decorated with his face.

[...]

Kikwete told Bush: “The outpouring of warmth and affection from the people of Tanzania that you have witnessed since your arrival is a genuine reflection of what we feel towards you and towards the American people.”

A FRIEND OF AFRICA

In a reference to Bush’s domestic problems, Kikwete added: “Different people may have different views about you and your administration and your legacy.

“But we in Tanzania, if we are to speak for ourselves and for Africa, we know for sure that you, Mr. President, and your administration have been good friends of our country and have been good friends of Africa.”

[...]

Bush has spent more money on aid to Africa than his predecessor, Bill Clinton, and is popular for his personal programs to fight AIDS and malaria and to help hospitals and schools.

Bush has stressed new-style partnerships with Africa based on trade and investment and not purely on aid handouts.

His Millennium Challenge Corp. rewards countries that continue to satisfy criteria for democratic governance, anti-corruption and free-market economic policies.

Bush signed the largest such deal, for $698 million, with Kikwete on Sunday.

EDITOR’S NOTES: So much for the BS argument “The world hates the US because of Bush”. Complete and total horse waste, and this proves it.  Any moron postulating that argument should help the US regain it’s stature by volunteering for mine-clearing duty in Bosnia or Somalia.  –Al Czervic

OBAMA HOUSTON OFFICE HAS CHE POSTER February 16, 2008

How is it a front-runner for the highest office in the land can reject an American flag on his lapel but permit the display of a huge Cuban flag at one of his offices, emblazoned with a mass murderer’s mug?

Improbable as it sounds, it’s true. Barack Obama, displaying the same “anything goes” standard of patriotism he showed when he ostentatiously refused to wear a U.S. flag in his lapel, now shows he’s got a whole different idea about patriotism.

One of Obama’s volunteer offices in Houston was caught operating under a huge flag of communist Cuba with Che Guevara’s face printed on it, according to images shown on Fox News. Flak from bloggers ensued — followed, of course, by spin control.

But rather than repudiate the image, Obama would only call it “inappropriate,” apparently without insisting it be taken down. That contrasts with his dismissal of his Senate colleagues who wear lapel flags as “hypocrites.” Some hypocrites.

The display of the Castroite flag with Che’s picture on it sends a particularly disturbing message about his campaign. Apparently, Obama tends to attract the kind of people who think of mass murderers like Che and Fidel as romantic revolutionaries. Those same people see Obama as a man with a messianic message. These are the voters he’ll be indebted to should he win higher office.

Worse yet, it signals that a U.S. commander in chief tolerates supporters with loyalties to nations other than the U.S., including those loyal to enemy states that spy on and seek to harm the U.S.

It coincides uncomfortably with Obama’s call for no-strings-attached diplomatic relations with communist Cuba. He’s even offered to meet with the dictators of Cuba, sanctimoniously implying that other administrations had no good reason for not doing so. STORY LINK
