MCCLELLAN’S CLOSET May 31, 2008

EDITOR’S NOTE: Taken in it’s entirety from Patrick Conlon’s excellent blog “BornAgainRedNeck”
McClellan’s closet full of skeltons
Did Scott McClellan Give Jeff Gannon Special Access?
James Guckert, who prefers the nom de plume of Jeff Gannon, is the ex-hooker and sometime White House “reporter ” who got rejected for press credentials by Congress but somehow enjoyed extraordinary access to the Bush White House, where he was given daily passes to enter the White House press center on more than 200 occasions. Secret Service records released after a Freedom of Information lawsuit filed by Reps. Louise Slaughter and John Conyers showed that Guckert appeared at the White House on 24 days when no press briefings occurred; on 14 occasions, his entry or exit time was missing from the logs, and on one day, he actually checked in twice but never checked out.The big question (which no Washington reporter has ever bothered to investigate) has always been: Who was Guckert’s very special White House friend who provided the gay blade with such remarkable access? Today, for the first time, Guckert offered an explanation.
“I can say without fear of contradiction, that I knew [ex White House press secretary] Scott [McClellan] better than any other White House correspondent or Washington reporter,” Guckert wrote on his blog.
That seems to solve several mysteries.
McClellan tripped off my gaydar from the first moment I set eyes one him. He struck me immediately as a closet case. He is married but has no kids - just two dogs - and it’s quite possible that he hired Gannon/Guckert for sex. I don’t care that Gannon was a gay hooker - we all make mistakes. He is still a Marine and a patriot. I’ve always enjoyed reading his blog and he was once a victim of the leftist Gay Nazis in DC who specialize in destroying conservative gays. What is left out of this article is what else Gannon said about McClellan:
Add me to the growing list of those who are having great difficulty understanding McClellan’s motives. I spent two years as a White House reporter, much of it during McClellan’s reign. At no time did Scott ever indicate, either publicly or privately, he had the misgivings he expressed in this book.
What I hear about the book does not sound like the Scott McClellan I knew for two years. I can say without fear of contradiction, that I knew Scott better than any other White House correspondent or Washington reporter.
In my book, “The Great Media War: A Battlefield Report” I discussed McClellan’s handling of the White House press operation. At every turn, I gave Scott the benefit of the doubt for the devastating communication failures that plagued the Bush administration. It now appears that Scott did not deserve such allowances. By his own admission, McClellan either perpetrated a fraud behind the podium or has done so with this book. Whichever the case, Scott McClellan’s credibility is zero.
However, something as “trivial” as credibility will not stop the rabid liberal media from accepting McClellan’s words as gospel – because it represents the “truth” they desire. The media mavens who once characterized McClellan as a clueless dunce at the bottom of the information totem have miraculously transformed him into a central figure in the decision-making process. So much for their credibility.
While I was attending the daily White House press briefings, most reporters, including me, complained that McClellan rarely strayed from his talking points to provide substantive information. Now McClellan has written a book around a set of liberal talking points, “Bush lied, Rove guilty, Iraq a mistake, Cheney calls the shots, and so on.”
What I believe it comes down to is McClellan’s desire to cash in. The only way for a former member of the Bush administration to cash in with a lucrative book deal is to bash George W. Bush. Paul O’Neill and Richard Clarke figured that out, Gen. Tommy Franks, George Tenet and L. Paul Bremer did not. In 2005, Ari Fleischer wrote a book about his tenure as White House Press Secretary that the Old Media paid little attention to for the same reason: no Bush bashing.Another thing that is left out of the McClellan story is the Soros-McClellan connection:
The company that published Scott McClellan’s new Bush-bashing book is PublicAffairs Books, and their Editor at Large is a guy named Peter Osnos: About The Century Foundation. The owner of PublicAffairs Books is a company called Perseus Book Group. Here’s their ownership tree: Perseus Books Home.
The firm is owned by Perseus Funds Group (holding company Perseus LLC), a capital management firm that grew from about $20 million in 1995 to over $2 billion now. Big infusions of cash seemed to help it grow exponentially, and it closed funds almost as fast as it opened them. The board has tons of liberals from the Clinton and Carter Administrations, with far-left credentials that almost put Osnos’ to shame. Their web site is here: PERSEUS - merchant bank and private equity fund management.
If you go to the New York Department of State web site and enter “Perseus” in the “Business Organization” search, you get this on page 2 of the results:

THE CATSKILL COMMENTATOR’S EDITOR’S NOTES: Ms. Surrenderdon said the same thing when Bush 43 was reelected. Can you say ‘liar’ kiddies? What a sorry loser.
I’ll really miss Ole’ Golf Ball Eyes .. NOT. Al Czervic
SUSAN SARANDON, who appeared in three films last year and won kudos for her TV movie “Bernard and Doris,” is still not a contented soul. She says if John McCain gets elected, she will move to Italy or Canada. She adds, “It’s a critical time, but I have faith in the American people.”
OK, American people. You don’t want Susan to move out of the country, so it’s up to you to elect Barack Obama. What? You thought Susan of all people would be for Hillary Clinton? Well, no. She told John Hiscock: “I thought the whole point of feminism is that you’re not supposed to be defined by gender. I don’t understand the reasoning
behind that, because I wouldn’t vote for Condoleezza Rice, and I hated Margaret Thatcher.”– Liz Smith , THE NEW YORK POST 5/30/08
WHEN WILL OBAMA VISIT IRAQ? May 29, 2008
Posted by Commentator in Uncategorized.add a comment
Dear Vets for Freedom members:
On Friday, Vets for Freedom PAC released an advertisement featuring Iraq war veteran Sergeant Garrett Anderson. The ad points out that Senator Obama was unwilling to meet with Illinois veterans, has never met with General Petraeus, and hasn’t visited Iraq in over two years. The facts are the facts, and the ad speaks for itself.
Predictably, the ad sparked fierce opposition from anti-war elements (here, here & here) who accused us of being a “right-wing 527 attack organization.” Except, they forgot to do their research. Vets for Freedom is not a 527, nor an attack organization. Our 24,000 members and 50 state chapters comprise a cross-section of America’s veterans—Republicans, Democrats, conservatives, and liberals—all of which are interested in one thing: victory in Iraq, Afghanistan, and overall the War on Terrorism.
Today, we are releasing a second ad, featuring Iraq war veteran and Vets for Freedom member, Specialist Kate Norley. CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE AD. Kate, who served 16 months on the front lines as a combat medic, asks Senator Obama two simple, but powerful, questions:
- Senator Obama, when will you finally decide to go back to Iraq, to see the progress first hand?
- And when will you finally decide to meet one-on-one, unconditionally, with General Petraeus?
The ad also talks about the incredible progress that has been made since Senator Obama last visited Iraq in January 2006: violence down 70%, civil war over, Al Qaeda decimated, political progress occurring, and the Iraqi Army taking the lead. The fact is—the surge has worked, and has moved America closer to overall success in Iraq.
It’s important that veterans ask the tough questions of our prospective leaders. Vets for Freedom PAC has no interest in attacking Senator Obama; we just want to know why he seems so uninterested about what is actually happening on the ground.

MAURICE HINCHEY
-
Congressman representing the 22nd District of New York, the Catskills
-
Member of the radical Progressive Caucus, with “one of the most liberal voting records in the House”
-
Gave support to domestic terrorists who attacked a U.S. military facility
-
Provided propaganda for Communist FARC guerrillas in Colombia
-
Taxpayer-funded Cornell University is his single biggest campaign donor
Maurice Hinchey is a Democratic Member of Congress who represents the 22nd District of New York, the Catskills, Borscht Belt and Hudson River Valley stretching from liberal Vassar College in Poughkeepsie to liberal Cornell University in Ithaca to the communities bordering Pennsylvania. In a bipartisan agreement over reapportionment, Hinchey’s district was redrawn to protect his seat in Congress. The district is nearly 80 percent white, 7.7 percent African-American and 7.8 percent Hispanic. In 2000, before the latest gerrymandering, Al Gore won over George W. Bush here by 51-42 percent.
Maurice Hinchey was born in 1938 in New York City. He enlisted in the Navy at age 18, worked in a cement factory for five years, and then paid his way through the State University of New York at New Paltz by working as a New York State Thruway toll collector; he graduated from the college in 1968. Having acquired a taste for taking people’s money as an agent of government, Hinchey found work as an analyst for the state education department.
In the Watergate year 1974, Hinchey won election to the New York Assembly, where he served nine terms and passed more than 600 bills. In 1992, the year Democrat Bill Clinton won the presidency, Hinchey ran for Congress and won by a three-percent margin.
“Hinchey has one of the most liberal voting records in the House,” wrote journalist Michael Barone in the 2004 Almanac of American Politics. Congressman Hinchey is a member of the radical Progressive Caucus. The group Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) rates his recent voting record as 100 percent on the left side of legislation.
Like most leftwing Democrats, Hinchey voted against the use of force in Iraq (but for a supplemental $87 billion appropriation to support U.S. troops in the field). He also voted against allowing oil drilling on a scant 20 acres of the 1.2 million acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), thus voting to keep America dependent on Middle Eastern oil while opposing efforts to make that region politically democratic and stable.
Ithaca, New York, which is located in his district, was the second city in the United States (after Santa Cruz, California) whose city council voted, in 2002, to oppose the war in Iraq. Its declaration proclaimed: “Common Council urges the city’s representatives in Congress (Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Senator Charles Schumer, and Congressman Maurice Hinchey) to vote against any resolution in Congress that would allow the President to declare war on Iraq.”
In 2003 activists of the Ithaca Catholic Worker vandalized a military recruiting center. As one witness described what happened, these activists “entered the Cayuga military recruiting office with jars filled with human blood which they poured upon the walls, door, bay window, on the flag, on the stand-up cut-outs of smiling military recruits, and over a body bag which they had brought representing the American soldiers who may die.”
Congressman Hinchey, a Roman Catholic, refused to denounce this act of domestic terrorism against a U.S. military facility in his own district. Instead, wrote reporter Joseph J. Sabia at FrontPageMagazine.com, Hinchey “has instead chosen to release a statement that echoes the protestors’ views.”
“In just two years,” said Hinchey’s statement, “the Bush Administration has deconstructed the American economy, the nation’s civil liberties, and our environmental protection…. And now, contrary to International Law and against every decent instinct, we are engaging in what will come to be seen as a massacre in Iraq on the basis of the ‘Bush Doctrine’ of preemption, which allows the United States to attack any other country anytime we want and for whatever reason the President feels is justified.”
In June 2004 a jury in upstate New York ignored the evidence of crimes committed by these Ithaca Catholic Worker activists and found all of them Not Guilty. “Jurors decided to engage in jury nullification,” wrote Sabia, “to express their contempt for the United States military and the war in Iraq.”
The huge left-leaning student body and faculty of Cornell University influences politics in Ithaca. This university has made Visiting Professors of such non-scholars as anti-American, pro-Marxist writer and documentarian John Pilger and anti-Semitic congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (D.-Georgia).
Perhaps to win the votes of university students, Hinchey voted in 2001 to legalize medical marijuana. In December 2003 his voting record received the highest possible grade from VOTE-HEMP, an organization advocating hemp, a plant closely related to marijuana. Hinchey, like most liberal Democratic members of Congress, in 1998 voted against a bill to subject federal employees to random drug testing.
In 2002 Hinchey joined 43 other members of Congress, all but two of whom were Democrats, in signing a letter to Secretary of State Colin Powell alleging human rights violations by the Government of Colombia in its war against the drug-running guerrilla terrorist Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces, FARC, established as the military wing of the Colombian Communist Party. This letter, published worldwide and used as pro-FARC anti-Government of Colombia propaganda, made no mention of FARC’s thousands of murders, atrocities and support from Cuban Marxist dictator Fidel Castro and from Venezuela’s Marxist caudillo Hugo Chavez. The letter urged Secretary Powell “to take our concerns into account when determining whether to approve additional military aid for Colombia this year.”
In November 2004 Colombian Defense Minister Alberto Uribe announced that informants had warned of a FARC plot to assassinate President George W. Bush during his brief visit that month to Colombia.
In 2003 Congressman Hinchey co-sponsored legislation reducing or ending U.S. economic sanctions and travel restrictions against Cuba. In 2001 he had voted to keep a travel ban in place against Communist Cuba until Castro frees political prisoners. In 2000 he voted against Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) with Communist China until its observance of human rights improves.
Hinchey has a 100 percent pro-union voting record, according to the AFL-CIO. He also has a 92 percent pro-education voting record, according to the teachers’ union — the National Education Association (NEA). Hinchey earned this honor in part by voting in 1998 to deny vouchers to the 70 percent of African-American parents in Washington, D.C. who want to liberate their children from inferior, unionized public schools.
Hinchey opposed the tax cuts proposed by President George W. Bush, endorsing instead the Progressive Caucus’ “American People’s Dividend,” a payment of $300 to every person in America, the same for all whether a person paid $1 million in taxes or $0. Under this plan, a husband and wife with three children would receive a refundable tax credit of $1,500, regardless of their income or tax burden.
In 2000, 2001, and 2004 Hinchey voted against reducing or ending the marriage penalty that imposed higher taxes on married couples than on singles. In 2000 and 2001 he voted against the “death tax” that can force the sale of a small family farm or business to pay tax on its value of up to 50 percent when a family member dies. In 2000 he voted against reducing taxes on Social Security benefits.
Although a Roman Catholic, Hinchey has a 100 percent pro-choice voting record, according to the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL). He voted in 2003 against banning partial-birth abortion except to save a mother’s life. He voted in 2004 against making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime.
In 1998 Hinchey voted against ending racial preferences in college admissions. In 1994 he voted to replace the death penalty with life imprisonment. In 1999 he voted against banning physician-assisted suicide.
While the National Rifle Association (NRA) gives most gun-control-supporting liberal members of Congress a grade of “F,” it has given Hinchey a much higher grade of “C-.” One reason is that, after voting for the Brady Bill on handguns, “in 1994, as he faced a tough reelection campaign in a non-metropolitan district,” Hinchey, wrote Barone, “agonized over the assault weapons ban, deciding at the last minute to vote against it, despite a call from [President] Bill Clinton.”
In 1999, 2001 and 2003 Hinchey voted against a proposed Constitutional amendment to prohibit desecration of the American flag.
Hinchey has taken on several of what Barone calls “lost causes,” ranging from rural “Empowerment Zones” to legislation attempting to halt the shift of “veterans funds to the Sun Belt.”
One Hinchey crusade is to restore the government “Fairness Doctrine” that used to require commercial broadcasters to provide free airtime for opposing points of view. Like many government ideas, the ideal of the “Fairness Doctrine” was to allow many different views to be heard. In practice, its arbitrary regulatory chill prompted many broadcasters to take all opinions off their airwaves. The alternative was to risk paying a price in lost commercial airtime that must be given away, or to risk loss of their government license if a bureaucrat arbitrarily decided a broadcaster had been unfair. Many liberals now advocate restoring the “Fairness Doctrine” precisely because of this chilling effect, as a way to stifle predominantly-conservative talk radio by requiring stations to offer equal time to liberals.
Some of Hinchey’s biggest campaign contributors have been the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) and law firms whose members are wealthy tort lawyers. He has voted against every measure that would limit their profits. Hinchey, e.g., in 2003 voted against a bill to prohibit lawsuits against gun makers and sellers when a criminal misuses a firearm. In 2003 he voted No on bills to cap damages in medical lawsuits and to put lawsuits against HMOs under federal regulation. In 2004 he voted against limiting medical malpractice lawsuits to $250,000 in damages.
Roughly 54 percent of Hinchey’s Political Action Committee (PAC) contributions in 2003-2004 came from organized labor. One of his biggest contributors was the mostly-public employees’ Service Employees International Union (SEIU). His seat on the powerful, pork-dispensing House Appropriations Committee means that many special interest groups have an interest in being Congressman Hinchey’s friend.
Hinchey’s single largest campaign contributor during the 2003-04 political cycle was Cornell University, a complex institution that is partly state funded and partly private. Investigative reporters might want to look into whether Rep. Hinchey has found a way to coerce Republican as well as Democratic taxpayers to pay for his re-election campaigns through partisan political contributions he is given by the taxpayer-funded colleges of Cornell University.
EDITORS NOTES: Mr Hinchey’s removal from Congress is long overdue. Chuck this disgusting abortionist in the next election. Elect George Phillips. Roger Thornhill.
COMMIE BAND OPENS FOR BARRY OBAMA May 28, 2008

A hip rock band that features the Soviet national anthem and communist-inspired lyrics was on stage to open for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama at his record-breaking Portland, Ore., rally that attracted 75,000.
The Decemberists, a Portland-based group with a large local following, also closed the May 18 event.
The Decemberists typically begin their concerts with a Russian-language recording of the USSR’s national anthem.
A YouTube video shows the Decemberists beginning an April 31, 2007, concert at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., with the anthem.
“Decemberists” refers to an uprising at Senate Square in St. Petersburg Dec. 14, 1825, when a group of Russian army officers led about 3,000 soldiers in protest as Nicholas I assumed the throne, after Czar Alexander died without an heir.
The Decemberists have posed for publicity photos in period Russian costumes with the red flag of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 waving behind them.
ROGER THORNHILL: Nice endorsement, Mr. Obama. Why am I not surprised? 75,000 Communists found in Portland? Who knew? Seems to me like Barry White Obama stepped right in it again. But he’s not a far left wing guy, is he? Is he? If it talks like a duck, looks like a duck, and listens to duck bands— THE CATSKILL COMMENTATOR HAS MORE

Congressman Paul Kanjorski Admits Democrats Lied To The Public OnThe War In Iraq
To Win Control Of Congress In 2006, Knowingly Endangered Our Troops
HARRISBURG - Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Robert A. Gleason, Jr. released the following statement on recent comments made by Congressman Paul Kanjorski admitting that Democrats lied to the public regarding ending the Iraq War in order to win back control of Congress:
“In light of his admission that he and other members of the Democrat Party lied, I believe that Congressman Paul Kanjorski should do the honorable thing and resign immediately. He violated the trust of the people of his district and betrayed them through his purposefully deceitful remarks. I demand that other members of the Democrat delegation come clean as well and let the public know if they were part of this conspiracy.
“Paul Kanjorski said that the Democrats ‘stretched the facts’ for political reasons during the 2006 election cycle. As a veteran, I find Congressman Kanjorski’s admission to lying about the facts of the War startling. The fact that Paul Kanjorski and the Democrats put their own political interests and thirst for power above the lives of the brave men and women fighting to protect our country sickens me. By misleading the nation and the world about the progress being made in Iraq, Kanjorski and the Democrats put the lives of our troops in danger, and they should be deeply ashamed of themselves. This is a sad day in American political history.”
At a recent event, Congressman Kanjorski told a crowd the following about the Democrats 2006 election strategy:”I’ll tell you my impression. We really in this last election, when I say we…the Democrats, I think pushed it as far as we can to the end of the fleet, didn’t say it, but we implied it. That if we won the Congressional elections, we could stop the war. Now anybody was a good student of Government would know that wasn’t true. But you know, the temptation to want to win back the Congress, we sort of stretched the facts…and people ate it up.”
Click here to watch the Congressman admitting that the Democrats political strategy in 2006 was to knowingly mislead the public on the War in Iraq.
My comments: The Democrats in Pennsylvania who lied about the Iraq War for political gain include: Chaka Fattah (2d District), Jason Altmire (4th district), Joe Sestak (7th district), Patrick Murphy (8th district), Paul Kanjorski (11th district), John Murtha (12th district), Allyson Schwartz (13th district), and Tim Holden (17th district).
Gee, how many of these liars deserve to return to Congress so they can continue lying to us? Zero seems like a good number.
All these Democrats are career politicians, perpetually feeding off the public trough. They can conceive of no other “job,” nor can anyone imagine them holding one. Please, my fellow Pennsylvanians and Americans, put them in the unemployment lines. To Pennsylvania Democrats and Independents, you do have other choices than to vote for this pack of liars. Stand up for Pennsylvania, America, and the truth by voting them out of office.

NON-STOP BURIALS AT NATIONAL CEMETERIES May 25, 2008

RITTMAN, Ohio — The cracking of rifle fire silenced the twittering blue jays, blackbirds and killdeer.
As members of the color guard lowered their rifles, the smell of bitter smoke drifted over the family and friends of former Army Sgt. Ellis Hale, a Vietnam War veteran who died of prostate cancer at age 59. Sniffles and gentle sobs accompanied a recording of taps.
Moments after the final note, Sherry Hale walked down a curved brick walkway past the saluting line of representatives of the country’s past wars. Head bowed, she clutched to her chest the American flag that covered her husband’s casket.
The scene at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery is repeated nationwide more than 100 times a day. Military veterans are being buried at such a rapid rate that national cemeteries use heavy equipment to make room.
“We’re still in growth mode right now,” said Bill Tuerk, under secretary for memorial affairs at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. “We’re in a very high demand time period and we’re trying to respond to it.”
An average of 1,800 veterans die each day, and 10 percent of them are buried in the country’s 125 national cemeteries, which are expected to set a record with 107,000 interments, including dependents, this year. And more national cemeteries are being built.
The peak year for veterans’ deaths will be either 2007 or 2008, Tuerk said. An estimated 686,000 veterans died in 2007. While many World War II veterans are dying, so are an increased number of Korean War and Vietnam veterans. LINK

Senator Obama: Talk to Commanders or Meet with Dictators?
Dear Vets for Freedom members:
Yesterday, General Petraeus was back on Capitol Hill to testify before Congress. Senator Barack Obama was there too, but not for long. He stayed in the committee meeting long enough to ask one question, before ducking out to head back to the campaign trail. This wouldn’t normally be a big deal, except …
Senator Obama has never sat down, one-on-one, with General Petraeus. Even worse, he hasn’t visited Iraq, and our brave troops on the ground, in over two years. And on April 8, when two-dozen Illinois veterans went to his office for a meeting, Senator Obama was unwilling to meet with them. He was in his office, just wouldn’t come out.
WATCH OUR NEW INTERNET AD FEATURING SGT GARRETT ANDERSON
Sergeant Anderson was one of the 12 veterans denied a meeting with Senator Obama. And like his fellow veterans, Sergeant Anderson would like to ask Senator Obama a few questions: Why hasn’t he met with General Petraeus? And why won’t he visit Iraq? And why would Senator Obama rather talk about meeting—unconditionally—with Iran, instead of meeting with veterans and commanders? America deserves to know.
PLEASE DONATE NOW TO HELP US AIR THIS AD AROUND THE COUNTRY
Vets for Freedom PAC will continue to ask questions like these, all the while extolling the incredible progress the surge has fostered in Iraq. America deserves victory in Iraq, and Vets for Freedom PAC will be leading the way.

ARMY DESERTER IN CANADA GETS THE BOOT May 23, 2008
Posted by Commentator in Uncategorized.add a comment
The Asshole, Corey Glass
Corey Glass, a former U.S. National Guardsman who deserted to Canada in 2006 to avoid serving in Iraq, was told Wednesday that his application to stay in Canada has been rejected.
A spokesperson for Citizenship and Immigration Canada confirmed Glass has been ordered to leave the country.
At a Toronto news conference, Glass pleaded with the federal government to support his cause.
“In almost two years I’ve been here, I’ve been self-sufficient and I’ve got many friends and I’ve got a life here,” he said. “I don’t think it’s fair that I should be returned to the United States to face unjust punishment for doing what I thought I was morally obligated to do.”
Michelle Robidoux, a spokesperson for the War Resisters Support Campaign, said Glass could be deported by June 12.
Last year, the Supreme Court of Canada refused to hear the case of two other Americans - Jeremy Hinzman and Brandon Hughey - who sought refugee status here after deserting the U.S. army in 2004 to avoid being deployed to Iraq.
The court’s ruling backed previous ones by the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Immigration and Refugee Board.
Hinzman and Brandon Hughey argued they face persecution in their home country because of their political opinion.
The Federal Court of Appeal ruled, however, the two men did not deserve refugee status in Canada because they come from a democratic country with an accountable and just system for dealing with deserters.
The War Resisters Support Campaign has been assisting U.S. military personnel who come to Canada since 2004.
The organization’s website lists 13 U.S. war resisters who have fled to Canada.LINK

Target Iran - Air Strikes
One potential military option that would be available to the United States includes the use of air strikes on Iranian weapons of mass destruction and missile facilities.
In all, there are perhaps two dozen suspected nuclear facilities in Iran. The 1000-megawatt nuclear plant Bushehr would likely be the target of such strikes. According to the Nonproliferation Policy Education Center, the spent fuel from this facility would be capable of producing 50 to 75 bombs. Also, the suspected nuclear facilities at Natanz and Arak will likely be targets of an air attack.
American air strikes on Iran would vastly exceed the scope of the 1981 Israeli attack on the Osiraq nuclear center in Iraq, and would more resemble the opening days of the 2003 air campaign against Iraq. Using the full force of operational B-2 stealth bombers, staging from Diego Garcia or flying direct from the United States, possibly supplemented by F-117 stealth fighters staging from al Udeid in Qatar or some other location in theater, the two-dozen suspect nuclear sites would be targeted.
Military planners could tailor their target list to reflect the preferences of the Administration by having limited air strikes that would target only the most crucial facilities in an effort to delay or obstruct the Iranian program or the United States could opt for a far more comprehensive set of strikes against a comprehensive range of WMD related targets, as well as conventional and unconventional forces that might be used to counterattack against US forces in Iraq.

Available US Forces
Many aircraft are still in the region supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. The United States had aircraft at multiple locations throughout the Persian Gulf, including Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Diego Garcia. While the number of aircraft in the region has declined significantly since the end of major hostilities in Iraq, the United States continues to have some number of F-15Es, F-16s, naval aircraft, and some unidentified number of heavy bombers in the region.
[...]
Since the end of major hostilities in Iraq the United States has typically kept one aircraft carrier strike group in the Persian Gulf region in support of Iraqi Freedom. Tomahawk cruise missiles deployed on cruisers, destroyers, and submarines could also be used to strike fixed locations. A Carrier Strike Group would typically have about 500 verticle launch system cells, which could mean that roughly 250 Tomahawks would be available for tasking.
[...]
Doubling the number of carriers [there are now two] in the region offers commanders the flexibility of either keeping both strike groups in the Gulf or keeping one near Iran while placing a second carrier group outside the Gulf, where it would be in position to fly combat patrols over Afghanistan or cope with growing violence in the Horn of Africa. … Senior American officers said the increase in naval power should not be viewed as preparations for any offensive strike against Iran. But they acknowledged that the ability to hit Iran would be increased and that Iranian leaders might well call the growing presence provocative.”
Air power “persistence” is essential. During normal cyclic flight operations, a pilot spends a significant amount of time transiting to and from target areas. With the enhanced capabilities the CTF provides, by alternating air plan flight cycles, the CTF is able to maintain a nearly constant air presence over the targeted areas. It is difficult for one CVW to conduct flight operations for much more than about 12 hours before having to stop. However, with the combined striking power of two CVWs, the CTF is able to conduct air operations over a continuous 24-hour cycle. During the early days of Operation Enduring Freedom, USS Enterprise (CVN 65) was operating with USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) off the coast of Afghanistan. When the order to launch air strikes arrived, together, both CVWs flew 24-hours a day.LINK GLOBAL SECURITY.ORG
USS ROSS, ANTIMISSILE AEGIS WARSHIP ARRIVES LEBANON May 21, 2008

Report: U.S. Will Attack Iran
USS ROSS
USS ROSS, an ultramodern anti-missile warship, has quietly arrived off the coast of Lebanon. A month ago, this reporter called to the public’s attention that a carrier battle group, USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN, had arrived in the Persian Gulf, to battlegroup with USS HARRY TRUMAN. and we speculated that when other battle groups, notably AEGIS class arrived near Israel, an imminent attack on Iran would possible. We’ve also gleaned from www.debka.com that the topnotch command, control, com and intel ship, USS MOUNT WHITNEY, and USS COLE are also on station. Now read below: –Al Czervic
USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN
USS MOUNT WHITNEY
USS COLE
UPDATE: USS MOUNT WHITNEY, COMMAND SHIP, DEPLOYED
Exclusive: Command vessel USS Mount Whitney posted opposite Lebanon
DEBKAfile’s military sources report that Saturday, May 17, the USS Mount Whitney , considered the US Navy’s most advanced command, control, communications, computer and intelligence vessel, took up position opposite Lebanese shores for an “unscheduled mission.”
The Sixth Fleet spokesman Lt. Patrick Foughty said the ship would be there “to support additional communication requirements for our ships already underway.” [EDITOR'S NOTES --ships already underway may mean additional carrier task forces/battle groups]
Israel’s Army Radio is reporting that President Bush intends to launch a military strike against Iran before the end of his term.
The Army Radio, a network operated by the Israeli Defense Forces, quoted a government source in Jerusalem. The source disclosed that a senior official close to Bush said in a closed meeting that Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney believed military action against Iran was now called for.
Bush concluded a trip to Israel last week, where he said, “The objective of the United States must be to . . . support our strongest ally and friend in the Middle East.”
The Radio report, which was quoted by the Jerusalem Post, disclosed that the recent turmoil in Lebanon, where the Iranian-backed group Hezbollah had seized virtual control of the country, was encouraging an American attack.
Hezbollah’s aggression in Lebanon is seen as evidence of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s growing influence, and the U.S. official said that in Bush’s view, “the disease must be treated, not its symptoms,” according to the Post.
The White House on Tuesday denied the Army Radio report, saying in a statement: “As the president has said, no president of the United States should ever take options off the table, but our preference and our actions for dealing with this matter remain through peaceful diplomatic means. Nothing has changed in that regard.”
However, numerous signs point to a U.S. strike on Iran in the near future:
A leading member of America’s Jewish community told Newsmax in April that a military strike on Iran was likely and that Vice President Cheney’s March trip through the Middle East came in preparation for the U.S. attack. The Air Force recently declared the B-2 bomber fleet — a critical weapons system in any U.S. attack on Iran — as airworthy again. The Air Force had halted B-2 flights after a February crash in Guam. As Newsmax reported, the Air Force has refitted its stealth bombers to carry 30,000-pound “bunker buster” bombs, needed to destroy Iran’s hardened nuclear facilities. A second U.S. aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln, joined the carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the Persian Gulf in May, carrying far more weaponry and ammunition than on previous deployments. Israel is gearing up for war. In April, it conducted its largest homeland military exercises ever. The Jewish-American source said Israel is “preparing for heavy casualties,” expecting to be the target of Iranian retribution following the U.S. attack. Saudi Arabia is taking steps to prepare for possible radioactive contamination from U.S. destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities. The Saudi government reportedly approved nuclear fallout preparations a day after Cheney met with the kingdom’s highest-ranking officials. The USS Ross, an Aegis-class destroyer, has taken up station off the coast of Lebanon. Military observers speculate it is there to help defend Israel from missile attacks. Adm. Michael Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said at a recent Pentagon briefing that the Iranians are systematically importing and training Shiite militia fighters, who slip back across the Iraqi border to kill American troops.
And Israeli intelligence has predicted that Iran will acquire its first nuclear device in 2009, much earlier than previous U.S. estimates. LINK: NEWSMAX.COM

EDITOR’S NOTES: The clock is running out for Ted Kennedy, the evil womanizing drunk who’s support of abortionists has helped murder millions of innocents over the years. Good riddance. Al Czervic and Roger Thornhill, The Catskill Commentator
Two important events happened in the spring of 1969. Man walked on the moon and Mary Jo Kopechne died near Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts. Ironically, the young woman’s death may well have had a bigger impact on the history of America and the world.
In the late 1960s Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D.-Mass.) could have had his party’s presidential nomination for the asking. With the ghosts of two murdered brothers and the attendant sympathy surrounding him, Kennedy had a reasonable expectation of becoming president.
Then came Chappaquiddick and the probable end of any possibility of Teddy Kennedy moving into the White House. Questions about the death of Mary Jo Kopechne remain unanswered.
She and five other women, all in their 20s and unmarried, attended a party in a rented cottage with Teddy and five other men. All the men, except for the 60-year-old chauffeur, were married, but none of their wives was present.
It was some party. Refreshments for the twelve included three half gallons of vodka, four fifths of scotch, two bottles of rum and two cases of beer. Kennedy denied he was under the influence when he and Miss Kopechne left the party together.
He said he took a wrong turn and drove his car into eight feet of water. He got of the car, returned to the party and brought two other men to the scene of the accident. When they were unable to rescue the girl, he told the others he would call the police.
He did not. Instead, he returned to his motel, spoke to an employee there, began making telephone calls to associates and went to sleep. All that time Mary Jo Kopechne remained in the car.
![]()
Possibly she could have been saved. The captain of the Edgartown, Massachusetts scuba team believes she may have stayed alive in an air pocket for several hours.
The next morning the car and the girl’s body were found. When Kennedy finally completed an accident report, he didn’t even know her name, referring to her simply as “Miss Mary ___.”
There was a conflict on what time the accident had occurred. A sheriff said he had seen Kennedy’s car hours after Kennedy said the accident occurred. The senator said he based his estimate on the clock of the rented car he was driving. When it was determined the car didn’t have a clock, Kennedy changed his story.
A grand jury investigated, but the results were already decided. Said the district attorney, “I feel sorry for him (Kennedy). What’s all this business about a conflicting statement? That’s nothing! Never mind the press. Never mind being president. Let’s save him.”
Senator Kennedy didn’t want the girl’s body exhumed for an autopsy. Fortunately for him, neither did the judge responsible for making the decision. Described as a “party-line Democrat of limited judicial gifts,” the judge maintained a bust of President Kennedy on display in his chambers.
The jury foreman later complained, “Things might have been different,” if the grand jury had been allowed access to necessary information, “but we couldn’t get our hands on it.”
Another member of the grand jury admitted, “We were dupes and boobs and let ourselves be manipulated. Nobody ever briefed us properly about what we could do.” Bragged the district attorney later, “There’s no question in my mind that the grand jury would have brought an indictment against Ted Kennedy for manslaughter, if I had given them the case.”
The senator gave a televised speech in which he denied any wrongdoing. The speech was so full of contradictions from what was already known that its author, Ted Sorensen tried to distance himself: “To the best of my knowledge there are no misstatements of facts.”
Attorney Melvin Belli was on target when he said, “The irony is, the public’s impression that the JFK autopsy was unsatisfactory, and now Teddy Kennedy’s female companion gets none. The Kennedy family is hiding the actions of those two days. They’ve gone around parading themselves as sponsors of the little people and yet that little person in the back seat of a car goes unexamined to the grave.” The people of Massachusetts continue to keep Kennedy in the Senate, where he has long been a liberal pinup boy. As a member of the Judiciary Committee he’s allowed to pass judgment on lesser mortals like Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas.
The truth of what happened at Chappaquiddick 35 years ago will never be known. It died with Mary Jo Kopechne.

That Ted Kennedy was allowed to escape justice when he was clearly guilty of negligent homicide at a minimum and then REWARDED with a life of political royalty in the U.S. Senate says a lot about the people of Massachusettes and liberals in general.
OBAMA’S SCREWUPS May 21, 2008
Posted by Commentator in Uncategorized.add a comment
All it takes is one gaffe to taint a Republican for life. The political establishment never let Dan Quayle live down his fateful misspelling of “potatoe.”
The New York Times distorted and misreported the first President Bush’s questions about new scanner technology at a grocers’ convention to brand him permanently as out of touch.
But what about Barack Obama? The guy’s a perpetual gaffe machine. Let us count the ways, large and small, that his tongue has betrayed him throughout the campaign:
Last May, he claimed that tornadoes in Kansas killed a whopping 10,000 people: “In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died — an entire town destroyed.” The actual death toll: 12.
Earlier this month in Oregon, he redrew the map of the United States: “Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go.”
Last week, in front of a roaring Sioux Falls, S.D., audience, Obama exulted: “Thank you, Sioux City. … I said it wrong. I’ve been in Iowa for too long. I’m sorry.”
Explaining last week why he was trailing Hillary Clinton in Kentucky, Obama again botched basic geography: “Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it’s not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle.” On what map is Arkansas closer to Kentucky than Illinois?
Obama has as much trouble with numbers as he has with maps. Last March, on the anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march in Selma, Ala., he claimed his parents united as a direct result of the civil rights movement: “There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Ala., because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born.”
Obama was born in 1961. The Selma march took place in 1965. His spokesman, Bill Burton, later explained that Obama was “speaking metaphorically about the civil-rights movement as a whole.”
Earlier this month in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Obama showed off his knowledge of the war in Afghanistan by homing in on a lack of translators: “We only have a certain number of them, and if they are all in Iraq, then it’s harder for us to use them in Afghanistan.” The real reason it’s “harder for us to use them” in Afghanistan: Iraqis speak Arabic or Kurdish. The Afghanis speak Pashto, Farsi, or other non-Arabic languages.
Over the weekend in Oregon, Obama pleaded ignorance of the decades-old, multibillion-dollar massive Hanford nuclear-waste cleanup: “Here’s something that you will rarely hear from a politician, and that is that I’m not familiar with the Hanford, uuuuhh, site, so I don’t know exactly what’s going on there. (Applause.) Now, having said that, I promise you I’ll learn about it by the time I leave here on the ride back to the airport.”
I assume on that ride, a staffer reminded him that he’s voted on at least one defense-authorization bill that addressed the “costs, schedules, and technical issues” dealing with the nation’s most contaminated nuclear-waste site.
Last March, the Chicago Tribune reported this little-noticed nugget about a fake autobiographical detail in Obama’s Dreams from My Father: “Then, there’s the copy of Life magazine that Obama presents as his racial awakening at age 9. In it, he wrote, was an article and two accompanying photographs of an African-American man physically and mentally scarred by his efforts to lighten his skin. In fact, the Life article and the photographs don’t exist, say the magazine’s own historians.”
And in perhaps the most seriously troubling set of gaffes of them all, Obama told a Portland crowd over the weekend that Iran doesn’t “pose a serious threat to us” — cluelessly arguing that “tiny countries” with small defense budgets can’t do us harm — and then promptly flip-flopped the next day, claiming, “I’ve made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave.”
Barack Obama — promoted by the Left and the media as an all-knowing, articulate, transcendent Messiah — is a walking, talking gaffe machine. How many more passes does he get? How many more can we afford? LINK

EX MORRISVILLE PROF CONVICTED OF THREATS May 20, 2008

A former Morrisville State College professor has been convicted on 11 counts of sending death threats to his former colleagues.
Xiang Li, 43, faces five years in prison when he is sentenced on Sept. 11.
Li was found guilty of sending nine threatening e-mails and making two phone calls to professors and administrators at the college after Li was fired in May 2006. He had been hired the previous August, but was let go “due to the poor quality of his teaching and inappropriate conduct,” court documents say.Li’s attorney, Michael Sean Weinstock, suggested today that Li’s former students at Morrisville hated him so much they exacted revenge by hacking into his computer and sending the death threats.
Li had been charged with 12 felony counts. The jury found him not guilty of making a threatening phone call to professor Kim Mills on Christmas Day 2006. LINK
FROM THE BLOG FOLLOWING THE STORY:

I understand that Michael Sean Weinstock is only doing his job as a defense attorney, but this is despicable. I am a former student of Xiang Li at Morrisville State College. His teaching methods were impractical. His demeanor was poor. He belittled us. He compared us to his “brighter” Chinese students. He cursed in class and let his temper flare on several occasions. I did feel uncomfortable entering his classroom. I also know Doctor Kim Mills. He is an upstanding citizen, and would have never made up allegations. I believe him with all my heart that Xiang Li made the threatening phone call on Christmas Day 2006.
As for the allegations that students hacked into Xiang Li’s computer to send the threats is ridiculous. If you were to have been in attendance during Mr. Li’s classes, you would understand the type of person he is and how unstable he is.
He should be locked up and given a psychological evaluation with counseling. I don’t think he is insane, but I do believe that he does not know how to control himself. This makes him dangerous to himself and those around him.

The Supreme Court has upheld criminal penalties for promoting child pornography.
The court, in a 7-2 decision, is brushing aside concerns that the law could apply to mainstream movies that depict adolescent sex, classic literature or innocent e-mails that describe pictures of grandchildren.
The ruling upholds part of a 2003 law that also prohibits possession of child porn. It replaced an earlier law against child pornography that the court struck down as unconstitutional. LINK DRUDGE REPORT

EDITOR’S NOTES: Fresh on the heels of Barbara “BaBa” Walters revelation that she had a long-term affair with a congressman, comes this story about a TV newswoman in New Zealand who’s a $7,000 per night hooker. Hmmm…newswoman –hooker? Who knew? How did she get her job? Can you say “kneepads” kiddies ??? -Al Czervic
New Zealand’s first naked news presenter - exposed last week as a $7000-a-night call girl - is doing it for her son’s “brilliant education”.
Solo mum Lisa Lewis, 27, was hired last month for Alt TV’s 10pm Naked News Flash.
Lewis hit the headlines two years ago for a bikini-clad streak during an All Blacks test.
Her website offers a one-hour, full escort service for $2000, overnight for $7000 or a weekend for $10,000 travel expenses extra.
Lewis told Sunday News she was mentally prepared for being revealed as a hooker but wouldn’t reveal what her parents said.
“I’m proud of everything I put my name to or connect my name with. The phrase ‘I am happy in my own skin’ is a good representation of me.”
Selling sex was “in the best interests for both my son and myself from a financial perspective”.
“Being an escort does not make me less of a mother. I’m earning a good income and being able to give my son a brilliant education and the chance for him to live out his own dreams and his own aspirations in the future.”
She refused to discuss her client list but said she was probably New Zealand’s most expensive working girl.
“My prices are excessive for a reason, I go for quality rather than quantity.”
Lewis said people should not hate her. “Admired maybe for doing a job the majority would not be head-strong enough to do.”
The aspiring newsreader said Alt TV on Sky’s Channel 65 and online was a breath of fresh air.

OBAMA AND TEDDY WANT YOUR GUNS May 18, 2008

Obama Mentor Ted Kennedy’s Anti-Gun Career
by: Chris W. Cox NRA-ILA Executive Director
The man who has cast more anti-gun votes than any other lawmaker in U.S. history has endorsed a candidate for president. On Jan. 28, Sen. Ted Kennedy formally, and to great fanfare, bestowed his political blessing on Sen. Barack Obama.
As he basked in the Kennedy family limelight, Obama proclaimed: “I don’t think there’s anybody who understands the possibilities of government more than Ted Kennedy . . . he has been on the front lines, he knows what it takes.”
The junior senator from Illinois gushed on, saying of Kennedy, “Nobody’s better than him. What’s amazing is his voice has all the power of 30, 40 years ago. He is at the heart and soul of the Democratic Party. … To have him offer such a powerful endorsement I think will mean a lot. Obviously, there are people who are still getting familiar with me nationwide. Their vision of this day will make them give me a close look.”
I sure hope that Obama’s last comment is correct. As the old proverb goes: “When the character of a man is not clear to you, look at his friends.”
Let’s take a quick look at the shameful anti-gun record of Sen. Obama’s good friend and benefactor Ted Kennedy. Obama was still in elementary school when Kennedy proposed his “Personal Safety Firearms Act of 1973.”
Taking to the Senate floor, Kennedy claimed: “Gun control laws in the United States are woefully inadequate. In our vast society guns should have no reasonable role.” (Emphasis added.) This was Kennedy’s voice “30, 40 years ago.”
That same voice contemptuously dismissed the right that the Founding Fathers recognized and sought to protect for future generations of Americans—the right to own and possess arms for self-defense, for hunting, for simple personal enjoyment.
“For the American family in 1973, fear, apprehension, mistrust, anguish and pain are the dreaded products of our firearms history,” Kennedy claimed.
Summarizing his bill for his col-leagues, Kennedy said it would require:
“First, the registration of every civilian-owned gun in this country. Second, it will require all gun owners to pass stringent qualifying procedures to legally possess a gun and, third, it bans the domestic output of all hand-held firearms that are not designed for sporting purposes.”
Obama—recently named the most liberal senator for 2007 in the National Journal’s annual ratings—would probably characterize this all-out assault on our Second Amendment rights as exercising “the possibilities of government.”
Kennedy’s fellow senators understood differently, however, and soundly rejected his legislation on a 78-11 vote.
Undaunted, Kennedy continued to charge full steam ahead. In 1979, his constant efforts to abolish our Right to Keep and Bear Arms brought him to the attention of the Senate Ethics Committee. Obama may think “nobody’s better than” Kennedy, but the committee unanimously rebuked Kennedy for improperly using Senate stationery to write fund-raising letters for gun-ban groups that included the National Coalition to Ban Handguns.
It’s safe to say that there is not a single outrageous anti-gun position Ted Kennedy has failed to support in his long career. He has voted to ban semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns. He has attempted to make it a federal crime to purchase more than two handguns in a year. He has proposed 21-day waiting periods on all gun purchases. He has made several attempts to ban centerfire hunting ammunition.
When his gun and ammunition bans failed, Sen. Kennedy fought tooth and nail to protect the gun control lobby’s schemes to bankrupt the American firearm industry. And don’t think that the gun confiscations from law-abiding citizens in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina troubled Kennedy in the least. He was one of only 16 senators to vote against the nra-backed “Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act” that became federal law on Oct. 9, 2006. The “Not Sweet 16,” as we have labeled them, also included Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
The man Obama praises as having “been on the front lines” has throughout his career been a staunch opponent of the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Why? Because, in his words, “It seems to validate the role of firearms as an acceptable and attractive part of our daily life.”
Given his comments about his grand endorser, it’s fair to say that Barack Obama would govern in the style of Ted Kennedy, appoint an attorney general who holds Ted Kennedy’s values and nominate Supreme Court justices who view the world as Ted Kennedy does. That is a frightening prospect for gun owners.
MIDDLETOWN SOLDIER AWARDED ARMY COMMENDATION MEDAL May 17, 2008

He was late for work, or he wouldn’t even have mentioned it. Gladys Maina and Army Capt. Dan Tower (right) present a commendation medal to Sgt. Daniel Anderson. Anderson, a combat vet, rescued Maina from her wrecked car in February.
Times Herald-Record
May 17, 2008
MIDDLETOWN — Smoke was filling Gladys Maina’s car, and she was trapped inside.
It was 8:15 a.m. on Feb. 1. A moment earlier, she’d been driving on Dolsontown Road, heading home from her job as an advocate at Crystal Run Village. A Jeep hit her head-on, crushing and spinning her car. She was in terrible pain.
Then a soldier appeared next to her car. He broke out a window, and the smoke cleared. He held her head and neck steady, and comforted her.
“He was calming, and telling me, ‘Ma’am, don’t worry, we’re doing everything we can,’ ” Maina said. “I could have died from the smoke. He saved my life.”
He stayed with Maina until firefighters cut her free and medics took her to the hospital, but she never got his name.
To her great joy, the soldier’s commander tracked her down. Yesterday at SUNY Orange in Middletown, Maina, now recovered, presented Sgt. Daniel Anderson with an Army Commendation Medal for his actions.
Anderson says he was just doing his job.
“I’ve got three combat tours,” he said. “I did the same thing I’d do for any freakin’ guy there.”
Anderson saw the crash on his way to work at the recruiting station in Middletown. As others stood by watching, he determined that the Jeep’s driver was fine — and the woman in the Nissan was not. He broke out her window because the door wouldn’t open, and he did what he could for Maina.
“None of it really seems out of the ordinary to me,” says Anderson, who served tours in Iraq in 2003 and 2004 and a 2005 tour in Afghanistan.
The only reason he told his commander what he’d done? He was late for work.
Anderson’s actions impressed Capt. Dan Tower of the Bear Mountain Recruiting Company, who recommended Anderson for the medal.
“He didn’t have to stay, but he did,” Tower said. “It’s something you can’t help but be proud of, as a commander.”
Maina thanked Anderson yesterday in front of a training class full of Anderson’s fellow recruiters.
“I am so, so grateful for him, and for what you people do,” she told the soldiers. “If not for him, I don’t know if I would be standing here today.”
“I didn’t do anything you all wouldn’t have done,” Anderson told his colleagues. LINK

Construction of new homes posted the biggest increase in more than two years in April.
[...]
The Commerce Department reported Friday that housing construction rose by 8.2 percent in April to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.03 million units.
[...]
The strength in housing construction in April came entirely from a huge increase in apartment construction, which can be extremely volatile from month to month. Building of apartments, defined as two or more units, jumped by 36 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 340,000 units.
Applications for building permits, considered a good sign of future activity, also recorded an increase in April, rising by 4.9 percent to 978,000 units. It was the first gain in permits in five months. LINK
