TAXES DRIVE OUT NORWICH PILL PLANT June 20, 2007

Procter & Gamble held meetings Tuesday with its work force, about 180 employees, to discuss the possible deal, which would likely result in the closure of the Norwich plant, P&G Pharmaceuticals representative Scott Docherty said. Employees would have the option of relocating to P&G’s business center in Mason, Ohio, he said.
“Obviously, cost is part of that assessment,” said Docherty, when asked whether the deal would cut costs for the company.
In August, the company began assessing the “sustainability of operations” in Norwich and investigating partnering capabilities, among other initiatives, Docherty said.
Now, P&G is discussing moving some of the local development, or “chemical synthesis,” work to Ohio and contracting out the rest of the work to the undisclosed company, he said.
The final outcome of the negotiations is expected sometime in the fall, he said. MORE HERE
ED NOTE: We have a close relative working at P and G in management. He tells us the confiscatory tax structure in NY is forcing the move, and doesn’t plan to move to the hellhole that is called Mason, Ohio. Nice work, NY lawmakers. Will the last company to leave the Empire State please turn off the lights? Al Czervic
